Lost Trails At Mercer County Park

4 hours, 10-13 miles, mostly trails, exploration, beautiful views around lake. wildlife

Please CLICK HERE before rsvping.

Mercer County Park has a large number of trails right along a large beautiful lake that go past a myriad number of athletic facilities. These include volleyball, softball, basketball, boating, olympic rowing center, swimming, equestrian center, tennis, disc golf, wildlife preserve, etc. It also has a some beautiful trails which are hard to find. Of course we're going to find them, then hike around the lake, over the golf course. I'm told that it might be difficult to go around the course over the dam, but we will find a way.

You don't associate a county park with wildlife, but we've seen 6 eagles here on one hike. One flew right by with 20 yards. We also saw a flock of 8 great blue herons flying over the lake. Never saw this before. The lake is even more beautiful if it's frozen.

Caution: You should be able to walk 3-4 hours without much of a break.
You should have recently hiked 8 miles in conditions detailed above. Maybe some easy bushwhacking.

To carpool from Hill House (201 W Evergreen Ave, Phila) meet 1hour 15 minutes before the event. Carpool time changes if hike time changes. Each carpooler chips in $7 at the start. Email me 3-4 days in advance and receive a reply.

The dam is fenced off on both sides of the lake. But if you follow the Assunpink Ck downstream a ways, you can cross it at Quakerbridge Rd and following the trail back upstream to the other side of the dam.

I got a question for you. During this hike; will there be any facilities for quick breaks(aka bathrooms/portojohns/outhouses)? Unfortunately; I cannot go 3-4 hrs without one! 😬🙂 Thanks Beth

Our route is not down pat, so I'm not sure about facilities. I would bet yes.

real restrooms at Marina and all other parking areas (look for the buildings), including the tennis courts which you will probably pass on your hike.

I'll like to go to this hike but need a ride... Is there someone going from Old City willing to do a carpool?
