Each year in the midst of fall colors we hike what I call the Maze trails which are in the Belmont Plateau area. The heavily forested area is amazing beautiful with multicolored leaves everywhere: lots of shades of green, yellow, some orange and red.
When I first found these trails I thought they were made by aliens for many reasons. They are very small, single file only; they go up and down, left and right in a crazy pattern. You never know where you will be able to get out. They don't necessarily go anywhere, and if you try, you might be out of luck.
None of these photos accurate portray what you will see. Each year it's different. There are also hidden auto bridges and other hidden structures in the Maze. If you have anxiety problems, you might want to bring some pills (and a few extra for me).
Caution:You should be able to walk 3-4 hours without much of a break. You should have recently hiked 8 miles in conditions detailed above. Many short, sometimes steep hills.
To carpool from Hill House (201 W Evergreen Ave, Phila) meet 30 minutes before the event. If the hike time changes then the carpool time changes. Each carpooler chips in $1 at the start. Email me ([masked]) 3-4 days in advance and receive a reply.
