About the Hike: IMHO, this is one of the THE CLASSIC hikes of Southern California. Let's meet at the gated trail head at 7:15 AM and head up trails promptly at 7:30 AM. Since this is Independence Day, I anticipate there to be a large crowd on this trail. It's best to get there early, secure parking and get up them thar hills! We'll hike up Ski Hut trail to the summit. If it's nice day, we'll laze around the summit. If not, we'll quickly regroup and head down the same way we came up. That wind can be a real killer up there. You'll need your Adventure Pass though. For a really great write-up, please see Dan Simpson's trail description for Mt Baldy:
Disclaimer: Hiking is a fun, strenuous and sometimes dangerous activity. Your safety and safety to your fellow hikers are of the utmost importance. There are some basic principles that'll help everyone be safe. First thing's first: be responsible for yourself. If you can't, well this hike probably isn't for you. Second: this is a high altitude hike. If you haven't done much hiking above 7000 ft in the prior weeks, this may not be a good first high altitude foray of the season for you. Altitude sickness is no joke. Trust me. I've been there. Third: I am not really a leader. I am here because I like hiking with others who like hiking. Please don't sue me because my non-existent mothering skills (or sue anyone else for their lack of mothering skills). It's really bad for your karma. Rant mode: Off.
