This is a great hike this time of year. As it is on the north side of the lake, snow won't be a problem...

ABOUT THE HIKE: In the first mile there is only a gentle uphill increase, however in mile two, the trail gets steeper and rocky in places. The trail, situated on the south side of the mountain is a lot drier than the lush Siberia Creek Trail, however the panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains make it well worth the hike.

DISTANCE: The hike is about 4-7 miles starting at 7000 ft and going up to Bertha Peak at around 8100 ft...

NOTES: Please make sure you have water, a hat, sunblock, and a snack. Mountain weather is changeable, so bring clothing layers to wear.

Check the weather at http://www.bensweather.com/

DIRECTIONS Take the 55 to the 91 to the 215. Get on the 10 East. Get off on University. Go left (toward the mountains) on University until you reach the light at Lugonia. Go right and follow Lugonia through Mentone where it turns into Hwy 38. Follow this beautiful road through the mountains over Onyx pass. This is a beautiful drive, so take your time, roll the windows down and check out the clean air and blue skies.

When you get to Big Bear turn left on East Big Bear Blvd, turn right at CA-18/CA-38/Green Way Dr, turn left at CA-38... the Discovery center is on the left about 3.6 miles.

You can park in the Discovery center with no Adventure Pass. We will meet in front of the Discovery Center. http://www.bigbeardiscoverycenter.com/ From there we will carpool to the trailhead. You need an Adventure Pass to park at the trailhead, which is .6 of a mile to the west of the Discovery center.

After the hike,we will grab a lunch from the Von's deli, and take it to my cabin for a relaxing break, before you head back down the hill.

THINK ABOUT CARPOOLING!!!

This hike is cross posted on other meetups!
