We are queer (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex) and straight hikers, skiers, backpackers and more. We embrace diversity and celebrate our differences. All orientations, straight and gay, are welcome as well as all gender identities and expressions.

ABOUT THIS HIKE:
Join Hiking With Pride for the Howl at the Super Wolf Moon Hike at William F. Hayden Park on Green Mountain. This short 4.3 mile hike (round trip) with a moderate incline offers excellent moon-lit views of both Denver and the mountains to the west.

The moon rising on the night of January 20, has these characteristics:

1. It will rise at 446pm and become a full moon at 1016pm.
2. It is a Wolf Moon - the first full moon of the year
3. It is a Super Moon - as close as it get to the Earth

CLOSEST TOWN/CITY: William F. Hayden Park on Green Mountain is within the city limits of Lakewood, CO.

DISTANCE & ELEVATION: Estimated 4.3 miles with 1,050 ft elevation gain / loss. Starting altitude is approximately 6,140 ft.

SCHEDULE:
(4:46pm - Moonrise)
(5:05pm - Sunset)
6:00pm - Meet at Trailhead
6:10pm - Depart up the main Green Mountain Trail
(6:53pm - Last light / Astronomical Dusk)
8:30pm - ESTIMATED - Return to the parking lot
10:00pm - Park closes

EQUIPMENT: This is a night hike! Be sure to bring:

+ Extra clothing for the cold.
+ Headlamp with fresh/extra batteries
+ Traction device for potentially icy or snowy trails. REI has many high quality / high price options, and Amazon has a multitude of options for under $20. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075ZRQVD3/ (My $15 basic chains have lasted almost 20 years with some minor repairs.)

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Beginner- about 4.3 miles round trip, moderate incline, variable trail conditions that will include snow & ice.

FITNESS LEVEL: Average - You should be active and able to spend 2-3 hours moving at a moderate 2mph pace with several short breaks. Be prepared for cold and wind. Carry a thermos of hot tea or soup.

PACE: We will be moving at a casual 2mph pace with short breaks.

MOBILE DEVICE ETIQUETTE: Please respect the nature of the outdoors. Use your phone as a camera, but enjoy the separation from the rest of the world. Please be considerate of others by turning off all audible alarms.

DOGS: Welcome on this hike, but must remain on-leash at all times. The group is not a search party for a dog which runs-off at night, off leash.
