We are a community of queer (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex) and straight hikers, skiers, backpackers and more. We embrace diversity and celebrate our differences. All adventurers of good cheer are welcome!

ABOUT THIS HIKE: Join HWP for an incredible hike to visit Mt Parnassus at 13,579 ft.

A good portion of this hike is off trail and steep uphill, but the views and lack of crowds are the earned rewards.

DISTANCE & ELEVATION GAIN: Route is ~6 miles round trip, with 3,360 feet of elevation gain. THIS IS A STEEP HIKE.

SCHEDULE:
• 0700 - Meet at the Wooly Mammoth Parking Lot Section HH; https://goo.gl/maps/kd6dBdeWyFm
• 0710 - Depart for Herman Gulch Trailhead
• 0800 - Arrive at Herman Gulch TH, Exit 218
• 1400 - Return to TH
• 1500 - ESTIMATED Return to Parking Lot.

DETAILS: ~6 miles out & back hike to Mt Parnassus with 3,360 ft elevation gain. The last mile climb up Parnassus is OFF TRAIL.

CARPOOL: We will meet at 700am at the Wooly Mammoth parking lot, section HH of I-70, Exit 259. We will depart promptly at 710am. The trip organizer will be driving a Gray Ford Escape. Contact phone number will be posted in the comments the morning of the hike.

TRAILHEAD: Herman Gulch TH, I-70 Exit 218, Estimated arrival time at the TH is 800am.

RSVP:
Be considerate of those on the Waitlist, and keep your RSVP updated. Cancellations less than 24 hours before the hike may be counted as "no-shows" if there is a Waitlist for the hike.

I actively manage the RSVP list, and give priority to active HWP members. My goal is to keep a mix of ~25% first timers and 75% repeat offenders.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Advanced to Intermediate - about 5 miles, steep sections off-trail hiking required.

FITNESS LEVEL: Fit - You should be active and able to spend 4-5 hours moving at a moderate 2 mph hiking pace without significant breaks.

PACE: Steady 2mph pace for the lower section of the trail. The final climb up Parnassus will be at the speed your heart allows.

MOBILE DEVICE ETIQUETTE: Please respect the nature of the Wilderness. Use your phone as a camera, but enjoy the separation from the rest of the world. Please be considerate of others by turning off all audible alarms.

DOGS: Allowed.
