Police shootings in California and across the U.S. are out of hand!! Councilwoman Monica Montgomery has introduced a motion for the San Diego City Council to vote on on Tuesday to support AB 392, an important bill authored by San Diego Assemblywoman Shirley Weber and currently being considered in the California Legislature.

AB 392 would put common sense provisions into law that will require police to use force only as a last resort and would provide comprehensive training to officers to help them incorporate these standards into their everyday practice. The bill is at a crucial point in Sacramento and we need to support it! AB 392 is strongly supported by California Indivisible.

There are three things you can do to support this bill:
1. Attend the City Council on Tuesday to support our speakers on this resolution. (You do not have to speak.) This will be a non-binding vote since this bill will be decided in the California Legislature. However, the SD County Board of Supervisors' recent 3-2 vote against the bill was not helpful. This is a chance to make our support vocal. Wear your HI shirt if you have one. Many HI members are not able to go to a daytime meeting--let's represent them!!

2. Call your assemblymember daily in support of this bill. If not sure who your assemblymember is, go here:

3. Call your councilmember about this bill Monday or early Tuesday. Not sure who your rep is? Check here:

CALL SCRIPT (or in your own words)
Hello, my name is (REAL FIRST & LAST NAME) and I am a constituent from (REAL ZIP CODE). I’m calling to urge the assemblymember (or councilmember) to support the passage of AB 392, a bill that would set appropriate standards for police actions in California and provide training that would protect the public from unnecessary violence. We must take action to re-build the public’s trust in law enforcement. Thank you.
