• House Concert - Sitar-Veena Jugalbandi with Tabla & Ghatam

    Join us at an informal baithak (house concert) where we kick it off with a Sitar - Veena jugalbandi, accompanied by Tabla & Ghatam. If time & weather permits afterwards, we will open for our usual "impromptu" sessions where you can bring your instruments and show us a track or two! House address will be emailed to all RSVPed attendees a couple days before the event. Artists: Veena, by Chaitra Agrahar "I'm a Physics PhD student, and a musician. I have been in the Carnatic music tradition for most of my life, and trained in vocals and the Veena. My gurus are Vidushi. Saraswati Nataraj, Sri. Gokul Subramaniam, and I'm currently learning from Vidushi. Jaysri Jeyaraaj Krishnan. I come from the disciple lineage of Muthuswami Dikshitar" Sitar, by Hari Nair "Unfortunately I can't claim lineage from Swathi Tirunal But I did save 15% by using Geico" Tabla, Randall Jamrok Randall has been learning and practising Tabla for about 20 years, with guru Pt. Samir Chatterjee. He has performed with Indian Classical musicians including the late Pandit Ramesh Mishra, bansuri Maestro Steve Gorn, harmonium Maestro Nalin Moolji, sitar players Maestro Aloke Dasgupta and Daisy Paradis, the International Vocal Ensemble at Indiana University Bloomington directed by Mary Goetze, and the Chhandayan student tabla ensemble performing at Lincoln Center directed by Samir Chatterjee. Randall has also performed recitals as a soloist. Randall has put much attention to the development of his tonality and clarity on the tabla, which is a hallmark of the Farrukhabad Gharana and a goal which his guru has guided him towards. Ghatam, Prateek Nagaich Prateek has a skill of picking up any instrument and making good music come out of it.

We will have time for our regular impromptu performances after the baithak concert, so bring your instruments/vocal chords! About the artists: Randall Jamrok is a tabla student of Pandit Samir Chatterjee. Nalin Moolji, hails from a Gujarati Hindustani Musical Family of Kerala, Disciple of Late Padmashree Pandit Tulsidas Borkar and Pandit Sudhir Nayak. He has completed his ‘Sangeeth Alankar’ in Harmonium from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal,Mumbai. Nalin-ji has mastered fingering techniques in Harmonium and his style has impressed several senior musicians, critics and music lovers in India. Nalin-ji is known as ‘Harmonium Solo player and an accompanying artist’ with senior artist of National and international fame. He has already accompanied many senior artists like Iqbal Ahmed Khan from Delhi, Samrat Pandit from Calcutta, an international fame, Pandit Vinayak Prabhu, Pandit Ravikiran and so on. Apart from Harmonium, Nalin-ji is also giving short performances using a western instrument named ‘PIANICA’(also known as keyboard harmonica’) in Hindustani music . Over and above performances, he is running a center for Hindustani music named ‘Gunjan’ affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal,Mumbai, training students to appear for professional music examination like ‘Sangeet Visharad’ and ‘Sangeet Alankar’ both in instrumental and vocal. He is an author for a book named ‘Hindustani Sangeetham’ written in Malayalam for popularizing Hindustani music in Kerala. This book is currently referred as a textbook for music universities. He believes that Music is a way of life, the best solution to all health-related problems as it creates a positive aura in and around you and hence delivers lectures on music as a therapy.

    Musical program ‘Swar Anandache’ by a well-known singer, Anand Bhate. This musical program is scheduled on May 11th at Sri Venkateswara Swami (Balaji) Temple from 11 am to 2 pm. This program is based on classical, natyasangeet and devotional poems (Abhang) songs in Marathi. Shree Bhate, a disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, is continuing the Kirana Gharana tradition, and is dedicating time to his divine music even as he juggles with his profession in Technology (he holds a Masters degree in Computer Science). Anand Bhate was honored with the title of ‘Anand Gandharva’ at the age of 10.
