This is a community for those who have an academic background in art history, architecture, design, or closely allied field, such as museum conservation--whether it's in European, Asian, Middle Eastern, other non-Western area. It may have been your major or minor in undergraduate or graduate study, or you may have attended design school, or attended several lecture series at museums and done a lot of reading on your own.
Those of us who have an academic background in art history, aesthetics, architecture, or design bring a larger and deeper perspective to our viewing and discussion. Would you enjoy getting together with similar others, for example, to visit local art exhibits and discuss afterwards over drinks & appetizers or over a meal at a nearby restaurant? There would be other events also that we could attend as a group. Because the Group Organizer has a travel Meetup group ("Travel Companions 40+"), there is the opportunity to join domestic or overseas travel with a significant content of art or architecture.
Unlike many other Meetup groups, members can suggest meetups for relevant events that they would like to attend with other interested members. If you have greater knowledge of an artistic period, style, or process, perhaps you can share some information with the group beforehand or lead an informal gallery tour. If you are well versed in a particular architectural era, you could lead a group visit to selected houses or buildings. If you have a background in architecture or design and would like to share in organizing events in this group, please contact the Group Organizer.
This is a more private Meetup group in that membership needs to be approved; members' profiles and meetup locations can be viewed only by members; suggested meetups from members need to be approved before being announced; and only limited meetup information is visible to non-members. These settings provide a measure of security, safety, and privacy for group members.
The Group Organizer has a background in European, Asian, and Middle Eastern art, as well as Western and Eastern aesthetics, and strong interests in traditional architecture and design.
Join us to meet new friends with an interest in the arts and also to gain a greater appreciation of art, architecture, and design!
Please note: the Group Organizer will not be available in May and from mid-October to mid-November 2016. Any membership requests during this time will be reviewed afterwards. Apologies for the inconvenience.
