  • Healing by discovering and sharing your spiritual gifts-By Marci DeBord

''Neglect not the gift that is in thee''-1 Timothy 4-14

Healing is more than one dimension, healing takes place on many levels of mind, body and spirit. Each of us has been blessed with unique gifts and talents. By discovering your unique gifts and graces, then sharing them with others, we allow spirit to work through us. Nelson Mandela in his inaugural speech said, ''Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us.'' Our spirit within calls out to us, this could be a feeling that something is missing in our life, the desire to discover something, or that we have a greater purpose.

In Christianity, spiritual gifts are endowments given by the Holy Spirit, freely given by God. In the New Testament, Romans 12:6-8 includes the following spiritual gifts; prophecy, serving, teaching exhortation, giving, leadership, and mercy. 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 contains word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, miracles, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. Others are listed throughout a variety of Bible texts, if interested I encourage you to explore using the index of your preferred Bible.

Dr. Charles Stanley says he asks, ''what do you enjoy most about serving the Lord? Notice, I don't ask, How are you serving the Lord? I am interested in what they enjoy doing.'' He goes on further to say, ''When we minister to others through our gifts, we are tapping into the inexhaustible energy and motivation of God.'' So by using our spiritual gifts we experience energy and joy, thus working outside our gifts can result in a lack of energy needed.

Spiritual gifts are many, from loving your family and friends, taking care of your children, cooking meals for your family, helping a friend by listening, hospitality to guests, talent or hobby, along with so many others. At times in life we can exhaust ourselves by doing things that do not serve our better good and lose sight of the important things in life.

Awareness of your gifts or talents, then sharing them will contribute towards you following your bliss in life. In some instances this could lead to doing what you love as an occupation. ''Choose a job that you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.'' a quotation by Confucius. Meaning that when you are truly doing that which fulfills you it will not seem like work at all. Also, along your journey ask yourself daily, ''Today what did I do for my mind, my body, my spirit, my relationships, my creativity and passion.''
