What we're about

Calling all wandering tennis lovers! I would LOVE to meet you precisely where you are with your game and help you take it to the next level through appropriate skill building exercises, drills and out-of-this-world exciting/fun competition!

In my opinion, if you consider yourself a 2.0 or less, you just haven't had the best guidance or met the right coach! Getting start in tennis can be a smooth, effortless take-off, just as the advanced game becomes once you have all the pieces to the puzzle and have hit millions of balls, LoL! In other words, though you may not be able to execute at the pace of 4.0 or higher player, you can understand what they are doing and how to emulate good form based on a few essential elements of good strokes and efficient movement.

The average ranking of folks in this meetup seems to be about 3.0 plus or minus. Remember that a 3.0 on a good day can look more like a 3.5 and vice versa versa and individual assessments of the same ranking number may vary! Anyone remember when the rating system was based on A-B-C-D!? That was pretty simple, because they added in the + or - sinus for clarity. Modest players might say they were lesser players, or players who just wanted to 'win at any cost' might try to get away with assuming a lesser ranking.

Tennis doesn't have to be a complicated mystery and you too can rise in your own estimation and that of others. It's not 'rocket science'! Too many players seem to consider themselves 'stuck' in their rating level, so stuck that it's a lifetime condition! Well, if you're a hundred years old, this could be true... Otherwise, keep your outlook and mind open! If you are looking for the most logical approach to the game that considers all important factors like posture, mobility, readiness, racket handling, timing, power positions, imagination, and demeanor then this a group for you! Your questions are always welcome.

Together we can take your game to heights you may have only imagined until now. My background includes over twenty years of organizing group tennis activities, directing round robin competitions, newsletter writing and published author of my very own 'Tough Tennis' Manual, now in the revision process for an upgraded edition to this avant-garde tennis classic! My goal for you, that YOU be able to play YOUR BEST TENNIS all of the time!

I took over organizer duties this meetup just over two years ago. The protocol for this group has been to allow members to suggest and run their own meetups. We left this feature intact, just adding 'tennis tune ups' (trouble shoot and upgrade your game!) and fun social round robin competitions!

Main court location for this meetup will be Plummer Park in West Hollywood. Other locations are Queen Anne Park and Crystal Springs tennis courts. There is a 'sister meetup' that I also organize under North Hollywood Ten+ Tough Love Tennis! No dues required, but event fees apply. See the >Discussions >Message board section for further discussion on fees as well as a wealth of additional information! Looking forward to seeing you soon on court!

Youth Tough ~Love~ Tennis Meetup (age/ skills yr choice)/Open for private hr

Exact Location To Be Determined

$40.00

Price listed would be inclusive for you or your group of up to 4 players of your choice. This is a weekly Thursday afternoon meetup for up to three who would like to learn to play tennis with confidence and success using basic tips from the classic game plus fun skill building drills. We always begin a class from a 'tai chi' perspective versus a 'kung fu' one. You don't need any experience to participate in these meetups and will learn all components of a great game in slow motion, which you will gradually be able to speed up! Each session will be up to hour long (depending on your punctuality!). By the way I am to be positively featured, possibly in chapter 4, of this exhaustive volume on tennis instruction over the last century. See a preview of the book here: https://www.moderntenniscoaches.com/foundation-501-c3 One of the things that I intend for you to achieve by means of these meetups is flexibility, the understanding an error can be like a blip on a screen that need not become the defining statement on your abilities. Rather, as a former mentor of mine used to say, "let it roll off you like water off a duck's back." There are countless means of bringing your attention back to the current moment, to the next ball that is already upon you. We make multiple errors when we stay stuck with the shot that is over, even a second ago. Another important skill we need to cultivate is the ability to identify just exactly what we are doing when we initiate or respond to a shot, so that adjustments are not only possible, but simplified. Anyone that attends my groups with an open mind, ready to possibly look at their game from a slightly different perspective is usually pleasantly surprised. I think you will be as well! Please feel free to come a half hour early as I will be doing my best to do the same! Should you be NEW IN TOWN or VISITING and want to try for a last minute appointment, then you MUST contact me via PRIVATE MEETUP MESSAGE. I should get the message within a couple of hours and will do my best to accommodate you, though I may have made other plans by then. You may be in touch with me through one of the message boards, through comments or rsvp for this meetup, or through email. I only exchange phone numbers via email. Want to start sooner? Then contact me immediately. Please tell a friend! Thanks for your interest! See you soon on court :)

Drop In Tennis Tuneup is now YOUR PRIVATE HOUR

Location visible to members

Until further notice, this meetup is slipping into the 'your private hour' category. It's a most volatile time in the history of the planet and folks are all over the map helping family, nursing injuries, working late... This Meetup is for anyone who would like to learn to play tennis with confidence and success or up-level their games through contemplating basic tips from the classic game while participating in the best of inner game, consciousness raising, skill enhancing drills. For future reference please contact me directly and early if you are interested in this meetup. At this hour for years students and friends joined me to sharpen their focus, timing, technique, execution... What makes this workout different? For most players, it is the ability to master net play as well as enhancing the ground-strokes to create 'all-court' game, coverage, control, balance, finesse, flexibility, ... altogether low-impact (on the joints) effective tennis! I need minimum 24 hour notice if you are interested. Please see other meetups and/or notes under >discussions >message board to get an idea what to expect. You can also email me via my meetup profile! Skill level is open, up to you. Wherever are you at with your game at the moment. You may be in touch with me through one of the message boards, through comments or RSVP for this meetup, or through email. I only exchange phone numbers via email. Thanks for your interest! See you soon on court :)

TEN+ Tennis! YOUR PRIVATE HOUR!

Location visible to members

$40.00

Meetup has it's limitations, one of which is the locked in 'per person' designation on the fee. Since this will be YOUR PRIVATE hour, should you choose to share it with someone else, it is still the flat fee indicated for one. This can be a weekly or one-time Friday evening PRIVATE meetup for you and/or as many of your friends and family as you like (withllup to 3 additional) who would like to learn to play tennis with confidence and success or up-level their games through contemplating basic tips from the classic game while participating in skill enhancing drills. We always begin an hour from a 'tai chi' perspective versus a 'kung fu' one. No particular experience required for this hour, as we will address your abilities and concerns at this time. Here is a little information on my background. I have been coaching tennis for well over two decades. When the 'tennis powers that be' decided to turn our graceful, exciting sport into a boring baseline slug fest, tossing out the classic backhand with the bathwater, I resisted and have trained countless players in the traditional fundamentals of tennis which lead to effortless all-court coverage, accuracy, variety, finesse and power... Side benefits for those who follow my guidance are greatly decreased incidence of tennis related injuries. I am very involved in most of the workout groups, so think of me as a 'player-coach', and as for myself I have never experienced more than an occasional minor strain that clears up within minutes to hours usually, but always fewer than 48 hours. You can check the >Discussions >Message Board for a couple of threads on things like tendonitis plus an excellent find on the importance of good body chemistry called 'Be Healthy Now'. Any questions! One of the things that I intend for you to achieve by means of these meetups is flexibility, the understanding an error can be like a blip on a screen that need not become the defining statement on your abilities. Rather, as a former mentor of mine used to say, "let it roll off you like water off a duck's back." Anyone that attends my workouts with an open mind, ready to possibly look at their game from a slightly different perspective is usually pleasantly surprised. I think you will be as well! You should RSVP 'yes' far enough in advance, so that we may be in touch beforehand to make sure that you have my phone # in case you can't find me. Charge for this meetup is a flat $40 per meetup fee, which is SUPER INEXPENSIVE, as you may know if you've shopped around for an experienced 'player-coach' who even SPECIALIZES in the rudiments of the effortlessly powerful, all-court, classic game. (a la Roger Federer, that is!) You may be in touch with me through one of the message boards, through comments or RSVP for this meetup, or through email. I only exchange phone numbers via email. Please feel free to share this meetup with your friends! Thanks for your interest! See you soon on court :)
