The most exciting star in today’s Cuban music scene, Roberto Fonseca won worldwide recognition when he replaced the late Rubén Gozalez as pianist and driving force of the Buena Vista Social Club. Not only a brilliant performer, Fonseca is feted as a boldly original composer, exploring new sounds, blending traditional acoustic instruments with elements of classical, griot and electronica.
He mixes jazz with many global influences, producing everything from meditative cool to super-upbeat dance party music.
His latest album, YO, won the best Fusion and Recording Awards at Cuba’s premier music award Cubadisco in 2013. It pays homage to Cuba’s African roots, hot sounds he brings to this essential HKAF concert. Alongside Fonseca, four of the best of Cuba’s and Africa’s musicians whip up a storm of Latin jazz and Afro beats. Feel the rush of rhythm in an experience to remember - the sound of things to come in Afro-Cuban jazz.
