Thank you for attending Chilean Wine Night

Hi Winos!

Thanks to those of you who came out to the meetup on Thursday! We tried 9 wines - well at least most of us did...some people definitely started to slow down after the 5th wine. smile But either way I hope you all had a great time, met some new people and learned a few things about Chilean wine.

There are a few things you'll find in this email as follow-up:

  • Recap of Chilean Wine Info
  • Results for Otto Lounge Wine Survey
  • Looking to 2010

Recap of Chilean Wine Info
First, I've uploaded pictures from the event to our meetup group: Click Here

Also, in case you were too tipsy to remember what we talked about for Chilean Wine, here were the highlights:

  • The climate of wine regions in Chile is midway between that of California and France.
  • Typical characteristics of Chilean Wine:
  • Red: very fruity and spicy with low tannins
  • White: fresh and fruity taste
  • Carm?n?re is originally from Bordeaux but now mostly grown in Chile. Very similar to a Merlot. Produces a medium-bodied wine with aromas of red fruits, spices and berries, and tastes that are most commonly cherry-like, smoky, spicy and early.
  • Wine Laws: More similar to the US appellation system than to France's AOC. Wines are required to have at least 75% of a grape variety if its listed on the label as well as at least 75% from the vintage year for that to be on the label. To list a particular wine region, 75% of the grapes need to be from that region.

Results for Otto Lounge Wine Survey
Results were actually fairly consistent from all of you, and based on your ratings, Otto Lounge has already begun to carry the Sauvignon Blanc and may carry the Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot.

Looking to 2010
Rickesh and I are leaving for the US on Wednesday, so this was our last meetup of the year. While we're gone we'll start planning events for 2010. Some of the ideas we have so far are:

  • Champagne and Sparkling Wine Tasting
  • How to identify the aromas in wine
  • Tastings from different regions of the world
  • In depth tasting of specifc grapes (Pinot Noir, Shiraz, etc.)
  • Wine & Tapas Night

As always if you have any ideas please let us know. We really want to host the type of events that everyone wants to attend.

All the best and Happy Holidays if we don't see you before the new year!

Carly & Rickesh
