It was nice to meet everyone last night! Thank you for coming and also big MAHALO to our Chinese teachers, Wendy, May and Xu :) Hopefully we can find a time to meetup again soon. There were suggestions for karaoke, pot-luck and also eating at Little Sheep (Mongolian hot-pot). Let me know if you have any other suggestions. Next time hopefully we can have a setting where people can get up and mingle and mix with different level learners. Will be in touch!

Great event. It was very useful to sort the different levels out so that everyone go to practice what they needed. Thanks Niki

We will set up in the Happy Hour section, which is the lounge/bar area. Look for our table sign that says "Honolulu Mandarin Language Practice Group: Mandarin Pau Hana" on it. Please sign in with us there :) Appreciate if you can be early/on-time as the seating is open and no reservations can be made. Thanks Kellar for asking!

Is it too early to arrive?

How do we plan to find each other? I'm not sure if it's a big restaurant or not, because I've never been before.

Dajia Hao, Aloha everyone! Just wanted to introduce to you our awesome Mandarin teachers whom you will meet next Wednesday. They are Xu Dong, Meiyi Liu, and Yunyun Zha. Also, it would be very helpful if you could reply here with your level of spoken Mandarin: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or Native.

    Mahalo!

I would like to make a proposal that we keep the conversation entirely in mandarin with no English used except when making a definition or in writing or with the restaurant staff. So often these events resort to English and it doesn't help anyone. Can we agree on a no English rule with the exception that you can write on a piece of paper?

Perhaps one immersion table that would have that rule? Its so easy to resort the English and then don't learn anything.

      I like that idea!

    Hi
my level on scale 1-10 is 0
    :(

    • Niki S.

Hi Marco, that is fine - although this is not a formal class, I'm sure that you will be able to pick up a few words or phrases with other beginners.

So happy hour = 21+ to attend?

    May 1, 2014

    • Niki S.

Aloha Kellar, since Ryan's is a restaurant you don't have to be 21+. Sorry for the confusion in the title of the event - and thanks for bringing up that question!

      May 2, 2014

    • Kellar A.

Okay thank you! I will definitely be there then! (:
