After 50 years of existence in a more obscure area of the internet, the Hoosier Canoe and Kayak Club, founded in 1963, begins an additional branding as a meet-up club.  The HCKC will continue as a common adventure organization for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy paddle sports, camping, wildlife, conservation, and friendship. Trips are featured nearly every weekend from March through October. From calmer flatwater to thrilling whitewater and all the open water (sea kayaking) in between, the club provides a varied schedule for many abilities and interests. Stay tuned for a new addition of standup paddle boarding.

The Club typically enjoys flatwater trips on White River, Blue River, Sand Creek, Big Walnut, Driftwood, Chain of Lakes, Flatrock, and occasional out of state trips. Annual trip favorites include a New Year's Day Float and the Ice Falls Trip down Sugar Creek.

Open water scheduled touring trips include Lake Monroe, Patoka Lake, Cataract Falls, North Carolina Coastal Waters, Lake Michigan, Ohio River and the Wisconsin Apostle Islands, with weekly paddles on Eagle Creek and Geist Resevoir.

Whitewater trips are open to members with the required skills and equipment.  Opportunities to paddle whitewater are frequent: Tellico, Ocoee, New River, Nantahala, Youghiogheny, Hiwassee, Cumberland Plateau and French Broad.  Once or twice a year a trip opportunity comes along to go somewhere more exotic...our members have paddled in Utah, South America, Canada, Idaho, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, Alaska and Maine, and Baja.

The HCKC is the only organization in Indiana offering year-round Indoor Pool Sessions with instructors every week.  For a small fee you can learn to get your roll on, get back in your boat in deep water, wet exit, or just practice paddling techniques while indoors and warm.  Please see the website for details on the current session.

As a member, not only will you have access to great trips in various paddling disciplines and locales; but also access to ACA qualified instructors volunteering to give classes to improve your skills as a paddler.

You are expected to provide your own boat, life vest, and transportation.  Of course, help is usually available if you need assistance with any of these items.
