We’re inviting you to a Spark Debate. --- How many times have you walked past a homeless person without noticing? Or wondered how they ended up there and what they'll spend the money on if you buy a Big Issue? I have. And, on occasion, I have chosen to walk on by. I'm not proud of that. I don't like doing that. I don't want to do that. I want to help. It's not just homelessness that elicits doubt, a lack of interest or inaction. What about plastic? Global warming? Obesity? How we frame and think about something affects how we feel and what we do about it. So what would make us think, feel and act differently? Differently enough to change things for the better? Before we can solve anything we first have to admit there is a problem, understand it, and accept we should do something about it. But therein lies the problem. Not everyone agrees there is a problem, or the nature of it or the way forward. So, maybe we need to reframe the problem. Take another look. Think again. Because then we might change the conversation and find a solution, or break the deadlock. Just like that Swedish teenager. What's her name? It's not global warming. It's a climate crisis. And suddenly, by changing two words, she's reframed how we think and getting headlines. More people are taking an interest, paying attention and beginning to demand action. So, why can't we do the same for other problems? We can. That's why we're inviting you to a Spark Debate. It's a pilot, so don't expect whizz bang, dancing bears or acrobats. But it is a place where we can gather round, have a pint, take a problem and rethink it. Reframe it. And present that to the world. And who knows. It might just spark more interest in it and action that leads to a solution. And if you're thinking, why me? Why should I take part in this? I would say: why not? If not us, then who? If not now, then when? Grab your ticket and join in. --- Venue is upstairs at the Doghouse, St. Georges Street, Norwich --- Photo by Jez Timms on Unsplash.
Our popular festive lightning talks are back! This is your chance to experience a quick-fire story storm. Our festive theme is "Joy To The World" - and we'll have a dozen delightful discoveries to share with you! Each talk will last precisely 5-minutes. Each speaker will have 15 slides to illustrate their talk. And each slide will automatically advance after 20 seconds. The Hot Source Lightning talks are Norfolk's version of Pecha Kucha / Ignite talks (we have fewer slides but give you a generous 5 second extra on each one). As interest is usually high we'll be shortlisting in mid November, so let us know if you'd like to do a talk straight away by filling in this form: http://bit.ly/HSLightning19 We're returning to the delightful Redwell Brewery for this event. Stay tuned for more announcements about food, sponsors and more!
