MAKE SURE TO COME TO THE PARK ~20 MINUTES BEFORE YOU ESTIMATE IT WILL TAKE YOU TO GET HERE.  LIKELY THERE WILL BE A WAITING LINE TO GET INTO THE PARK.

My phone in case you get lost:[masked]

The Hike: We come to our end of the Brazos Bend cycle of hikes for this year. This is finally the last of 4 hikes systematically doing all the trails of Brazos Bend.  For the route today: CLICK HERE.  First we will do the route marked by blue dashes followed by the yellow and ending with the red.

Gathering Place:  Skip the first parking lot, 40 Acre Lake, after entering the park and proceed on the park road until the next large parking lot you see on your left. Its the one for the nature center. The group should be visible at that lot somewhere there or near the restrooms.

What a gorgeous location! As always, I enjoyed meeting new people, catching up with old hiking friends, and all the great conversations. My legs are killing me! Sorry if I got some of us lost at the end! I am so thankful for the ride back to the parking lot... who knows how long we would have wandered along the live oak trail? Best line from yesterday, "How many live oak trails can there be?" :)

Don't feel bad Amy...I've steered people in the wrong direction many times...You're way cuter and can get away with it way better than me.

Terrific. Gorgeous day and we're so fortunate to have such an ecological treasure (and NO freeway noise!) so close to Houston. Not certain that I always want to do 13 miles but at Brazos it's fine because the trails are pretty much all crushed granite and I felt great. If it had been concrete, however, my body would be complaining today.

Cupid is full of energy...maybe like me....I refuse to get old. Hiking is my fountain of youth. Cupid seems to enjoy it.

      March 2, 2014

I wondered where y'all were... I thought you were right behind me... I was one the bozo's that took the wrong turn on other hikes.....several times...I wasn't going to let that happen again...

HI Hugo - this should be fun. I am walking earlier in the day with another group and may be running a little late to Brazos Bend. I will backtrack on your trail to find the HATS group - see you tomorrow.

Would it be okay for me to bring my dog?

    February 28, 2014

    • Audrey O.

Yeah, He has been to Brazos Bend before and loved it! He would probably run from the alligator - he's scared of his own shadow

      1 · February 28, 2014

    • Carl J

I think I'll be bringing Cupid with me...I've been depriving him of the 10 milers for a while. He may go Crazy with your dog at first..He will warm up after a few minutes, the he lives up to his name...

I've loaded the KMZ of the hike map for use in your GPS or to view in Google Earth on your phone.

    http://files.meetup.com/1731871/HATS%202014%2009.kmz

To use in Google Earth on your phone, copy the file to Google Drive and Earth can load it from there.

    1 · February 26, 2014

    • Carl J

I really gotta learn how to download Google Earth and actually use it.

I'll be coming from Dairy Ashford Memorial/ Terry Hershey for anybody wanting to carpool

    February 25, 2014

    • Miranda M.

Do you know how long it takes to drive there from your area? I live near you and GPS isn't always accurate with times also it rarely takes you to the main entrance.

      February 27, 2014

    • Carl J

I give myself a good hour...there is a long line to get in the park. I don't want the group to leave without me...

I'm at Richmond/Gessner area and have room for one more in my car. Unless the restaurant is celiac-friendly I will NOT be going out to eat after, so please keep that in mind if you want to rideshare.

    1 · February 25, 2014

    • Amy

Yes, they have salads and you can request no dressing or things on the salad that may have gluten.

      February 26, 2014

    • Helen S.

      Thanks. It's more that just, is the food gluten-free, it's how do they prepare it and how careful are they. I've had more than one experience with "gluten-free" that wasn't and it isn't fun;

      February 26, 2014

  • Carl J

    I think I will be there...Promise I won't cause any trouble.

    February 24, 2014

    • Amy

      And Cupid?

      February 26, 2014

    • Carl J

Yes...Cupid was already crazy when we rescued him from the shelter...He was there for several weeks. Then we came along...At the shelter, I was walking him and when I went to sit down, he sat right in front of me protecting me...I knew he was ours...

    Is this trail stroller friendly?

    January 27, 2014

    • Amy

The big jogging strollers with the larger wheels would work fine from what I have seen of those trails.

      1 · February 25, 2014

The map says about 10 miles but above it says about 11-12 miles. I'm wondering if it's more like 10 or more like 12. Hugo, what do you think?

      Thanks.
