H.A.T.S - Elevation Training Night Hike

  • This location is shown only to members

  • Curtain time at the Tower of Terror (Hobby Theatre) is 7:30 and they don't want us there before then. Sometimes late arriving theatre goers are driving crazy in the garage. As long as we take our time at the Backward Hill and walking to the garage, we're OK.

We meet at The Water Works at Buffalo Bayou Park, near the concrete bench on the far side. We walk to our first stop at 7:05.  If late, look for us across the bayou (West side of the bridge at Sabine St and Allen Parkway), or elsewhere along our route.

Google Map of the meeting place and our first stop at the Backward Hill

Cooler weather may be here, but you'll be working out, so please make sure to hydrate before and after the event, or bring a water bottle with you.

You may want to bring a little light, it will be dark on the trail before we finish

Parking is available to the right of the plaza. If that lot is full, go to the Fonde Rec Center across the street, or to the City of Houston Parking Lot H to the east of the Fonde Rec Center on the other side of the apartments.

This is a physical training event, on paved trails along Buffalo Bayou.  Wear running shoes rather than hiking shoes/boots.  The event is appropriate for all fitness levels. Beginners may find it challenging, but you do only what meets your fitness goals and capabilities.

Run or walk the stairs as slow or as fast as you want. You may choose to do other exercises, or just stretch while others are working out.  This event is meant to help you push yourself a little, and to watch your abilities, stamina, and strength improve over time.

Note we share the trails with bicycle riders and runners, so when you hear anyone call for bike or runner up-front, or from the back, move to the right side of the trail to make room.

    There are six main stops; in order;

    Backward Hill

    Tower of Terror

a break at "The "Fish Tank"  - restrooms and water fountain

and a walk to visit "Bubbles the Bayou Monster"

    Theater of the Absurd

    Stairs of State

    Blinding Wortham Stairs

    Tower of Power

All of these were aptly named by Tom Peacock.  We walk briskly in between these challenging points in order to keep our hearts pumping.

The event lasts about an hour and a half.

Lastly - if, for any reason, you change your plans about attending this event, please change your status to NO.

Hate to say it but I need to back out tonight. I was good with the cold but the wind is something different. See you next week.

Hi. Last night, I experimented with traffic to get to meetup location. Can't get there tonight on time. I am canceling. Have fun!
