The Hike:  We will do most all the hiking trails of this park and all also a beach walkFor our planned route map, CLICK HERE. To avoid walking over the highway and on roads, we will first meet at the main parking lot for the park on the ocean side.  Since parking is minimal on the other side where most of the trails are, we will gather into as few cars as possible and go over to do the first set of hikes.  After that we come to the main parking and do a beach walk to end our visit to this park.

For the last time we did a Galveston State Park hike: CLICK HERE & HERE & HERE

Gathering Place:  Park at the main parking for the state park after you pay the entry fee or show your state park pass.  We will gather here before carpooling to the landward side for the set of hikes of  ~5mi.  We then come back here and do an out-and-back beach walk to get us to about ~10mi.

Chance of rain and thunder is 100% tomorrow morning in Galveston. I am cancelling the hike. Lets wait for a better day.

By 5:21 a.m. Saturday, Galveston had already set a daily rainfall record for this date with 3.39 inches of rain, according to a report by the National Weather Service in Houston.

    • Tom P.

It gets even better, "With 7.68 inches, officially, Galveston recorded its single wettest day during any winter month, on record. Just inland in Texas City conditions were more grave still, with as many as 11 inches of rain falling. Parts of Galveston Island, Tiki Island, and La Marque all experienced significant flooding"

Does anyone know how much is the fee for the park?

    December 1

    • Tom P.

Adults-$5 per person. Or ride with someone that has a Texas parks pass and the whole car gets in for free.

It seems like we headed for some bad weather Saturday. For now, let keep an eye on it. If the chance of rain is above 60% will cancel hike. Check before you leave Saturday morning. In the mean time, we will keep ours figures crossed.

What type of shoes are recommended for this type of hike, will we be walking on sand or pavement?

    November 29

    • Dan

      Probably little pavement

      1 · November 29

    • Bobby G.

80% of the hike is on sand...

Would anyone near the TMC/WestU area like to carpool?

    November 28

    • Hussain D

I live by Shepard and 59...about 3 miles from the medical center. We can carpool.

I live near TMC/NRG at ~Buffalo Speedway and S Braeswood and have room for 1 non-smoker in my tiny truck. I fully reserve the right to cancel in case of rain though, so hardcore people should not ride with me. ^_^

      What is air bnb

      November 28

    • Hussain D

Airbnb is where ppl rent out a room in either condo/apartment or a house..It's usually much cheaper than staying at a hotel. Depending on the place, some places you will share a bathroom and kitchen while having your own room, other places you have own room with your own bathroom.

Dickens traffic will be later in the day. However it is a good day to enjoy the island after the hike.

    November 19

  • Rebecca

I think it should be OK because the state park is not close to the strand. They are on opposite sides

    November 13

  • Carolyn

Hi. I see that this is the same weekend as Dickens on the Strand. What will traffic going onto the island be like before the hike?
