THIS IS A NEW LOCATION! For a change I have moved this meeting to a location on the West side. It's in Woodlake Square off Westheimer and Gessner between the Randall's and Walgreen's. They are only open until 9pm on Tuesdays.
-Bring photos of previous costumes
-Ask questions about materials and techniques
-Bring a project or pics of a project
-Bring ideas for a "field trip" or on-site photo shoot
-Share your plans for future costumes
-Discuss group themes for future conventions and events
-Discuss meeting locations and days
Feel free to suggest any topic that you might want to discuss at the meeting. FYI - There is a discussion board on this site, so if there is anything that you want to discuss regarding a project, techinque, resources, etc., start a discussion and we'll see what we can do to help.
We love all kinds of costumes: Science Fiction costumes, historical costumes, movie costumes, theatrical costumes, fantasy costumes, Ren Faire costumes, LARP costumes, Halloween costumes, etc. We are also interested in costumes as textile art and wearable art. We cover all aspects of costuming from researching, documenting, creating, wearing, re-purposing and storing.
We meet monthly in a central Houston restaurant in order to share costume ideas, construction advice, material techniques, and convention information. We have participated in charitable events in costume. We also have sponsored demos, panel discussions, and presentations on costumes and costuming at conventions and in-house classes.
We started the Houston Costumes Group on Meetup several years ago, and then moved the entire group to Yahoo Groups. We have recently reactivated the Meetup group and are combining it with the Yahoo group which already has one or two dozen active members. We are also located at HoustonCostumes.Org and have additional club photos there.
Sewing skills are not required. Some members make costumes using glue, tape, pins, or other fasteners. We welcome all levels of creativity and skill.
