Purpose: To provide a safe social networking platform for American Muslim singles living in Houston. Please note that while we would love to take credit for finding you a spouse, we are a social networking group for Muslim singles, not a matchmaking/matrimonial group.
Our members are single Muslims who would like to get to know and/or spend time with other single Muslims. Our activities include game nights, brunch, volunteer events, picnic/bbq, sports, etc. No alcohol, clubs, or bars to worry about. Come make new friends and have fun.
Special Note: Great opportunity for converts. Many lose a lot of friends when they accept Islam and need a way to replace their social circle. This is a great way to build your new community, meet other Muslims, and make new friends. There is more to Islam than just going to a mosque. Make H-Town feel like home again. <3
• Must be Muslim.
• Must be a permanent US resident or US citizen to participate in this group.
• Divorced and single parents welcome. • Below the age of 50. • Must be currently single. If your divorce is pending or you are legally separated, please wait until your legal status is divorced. This includes brothers who are currently married and looking for a second wife. This is not the group for you.
• Great way to meet other single Muslims, especially if you are new to the area. • We are open to all races, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds and ask that you also come with an open mind. • This is not a "hook-up" or "dating" endeavor. All meetups are group events scheduled in public places and venues. For the sake of your deen and your safety, we do not encourage anyone to meet with any individual privately. Extending invitations to meet alone to any other member of the opposite gender is grounds for immediate removal from the group. If you find someone of the opposite gender you would like to follow up with, contact an admin. We work hard to make sure both parties' wishes are mutually respected.
• To remain an active member, you must participate once every six months. • After you are approved, read the FAQ (pending) for more information. We also include information on resources so you can learn more about marriage in Islam and are working on developing local support network that can help answer questions and provide guidance and pre-marital counseling. Please, come with an open mind and ready to get to know individuals. Leave preconceived judgments outside this group. Be willing to get to know someone before you judge them.
Because of the nature of networking, this space also allows Muslims who may not have traditional Muslim family and friend networks to help find a spouse, but that is not the primary focus of the events (it's just a happy by-product sometimes :) ). From a matrimonial perspective, this group does help facilitate introductions naturally through our events, which can help singles find a potential spouse. This group supports inter-racial marriages. This group was developed to also take into consideration struggles new Muslims/converts/reverts face. They do not have access to the extensive Muslims friends and family networks for finding someone special the "traditional" way. Same applies to people relocating from another city. They need a way to meet new Muslims. The hope is that this allows such individuals a more equal footing to get to know and network with the singles Muslims in the area. For those wishing for a more moderated approach, those options already currently exist and we are not trying to copy their approach. That approach works for some, but does not for many. We recommend trying out multiple options to meet people in different settings and find what works for you.
