What we're about

We are local Progressive Muslims who get together in an open, compassionate and non-judgmental environment. We seek connections that promote honest discussions and respect differing opinions. We wish to provide a safe and friendly environment for Progressive Muslims to socialize with new friends and families, while continuing to shape our belief in an inclusive and non-judgmental community. We welcome all levels of faith, or no faith; born-again Muslims; those having a Muslim heritage; those in inter-faith relationships or those simply seeking to know more about what it means to be a Progressive Muslim. Our goal is to build a community in Houston based on the core Islamic values of compassion, equality, social justice, and human rights. A place where you can be yourself :)

Our aim is to schedule Meetups regularly and get together for activities including family picnics, social hours, dinners, discussions, spiritual conversation, volunteer work, celebrating holidays, and experiencing art, film, and music.

Please come with an open mind and loving heart. All are welcome--including non-Muslim friends, significant others, etc.

Let's be honest, we have all joined meetups that we never once attended!! Keeping that in mind and in order to keep this group active and successful, we have the following policies

1. New members must attend a Meetup within 1 month of joining. If for any reason, you are unable to meet within this time frame, please consider joining us later when you have the time :)

2. Members will be removed after 3 months of inactivity. Which means you must attend at least one event every 3 months to keep your membership active.

3. We know life happens and your plans to attend an event may change. In such a case please update RSVP, or contact organizer as soon as you can. Failure to do so will result in you being considered a "no show". After 2 no shows you will be removed from group.

Please note you are always welcome to rejoin when able to attend meetups :)

Profile Policy and Questions:

Please take the time to give our group members a very brief introduction of yourself.

Profile Picture- Our group policy will require you to upload a recent picture of yourself as this helps us to identify you at events. This also helps us eliminate fake profiles.

Profile Questions - We ask them to know a little bit more about you and to use this information to arrange Meetups.

Meetup Pictures:

We post pictures on Meetup which are visible only to members. If for some reason you don't want these to be posted, please let the organizer know in advance.

Please contact organizer if you have any questions. Looking forward to meeting up soon! :)
