SORRY, CANCELING THIS OUTING. WILL SCHEDULE SIMILAR AT FUTURE DATE.
Warm spring like weather is forecast for this weekend.
For this bike outing we will use the Metrorail Purple Line to get out to UH campus, then ride new portions of the Brays Bayou Bike trails to visit the Orange Show, Smithers Park and other sites of interest in the area. We may include portions of the UH campus, etc. as time allows. This outing will be limited to approximately 12 participants due to travel logistics on Metrorail. This outing is designed to show how one can combine bikes with transit to extend one's travel distance. It is easy to take bikes on the trains.
Smithers Park features a variety of fanciful park structures and features. Here is a link for info:
Note: the Orange Show itself is currently closed for renovations, but most of it is visible from the street.
This will be a moderately paced ride, with opportunities to stop and check out sites of interest. This outing is on paved pathways and is suitable for most any type of bike. Round trip distance for this outing is approximately 10 or so miles.
NOTE: On Sundays curbside street parking in downtown is free. So if you are driving to Discovery Green, one should be able to find some street parking within a few blocks of Discovery Green. Sometimes there is street parking available right next to the park. One can also get to Discovery Green via Metrorail or bus.
Participants on our bike outings are required to wear bike helmets. Please bring drinking water, dress for the weather, etc. Bike locks are also recommended, in case there should be a reason to use them.
All participants will be required to sign in on our standard Sierra Club liability release.
Any updates will be emailed to participants on Saturday evening.
