    Great fun!

It's awesome going to a Photowalk without being all stressed out about logistics and planning. Thanks Calvin for planning a great event and letting me tag along. You planned a day with plenty to shoot. I would have never gone that far off road without your planning!

  • Krys W.

Great fun, Calvin, thanks for researching this! My little guy pooped out after the lavender farm, and after waiting in the Rose Emporium parking lot, I gave up and went home. Google routed me an interesting way home, but I saw even more beautiful scenes! Everett didn't wake up until we got home, ha!

    2 · April 5, 2014

    • Calvin H.

So did Mary Ellen pooped out that is after the Lavender Farm.

LOL, I did too, I pulled over and took a2 hour nap in Independance. Calvin, you wear us out.

Calvin, thanks so much for pulling this together. Weather was great. (Who did you have to talk to, to keep the rain away)?

    2 · April 5, 2014

Awesome, well-organized and executed outing. Can't hardly wait for the next one.!

It was a long day but a very good one. I probably saw more wildflowers thatn I've ever seen in 1 day! I feel sorry for the people that canceled because they thought the weather would be bad--they missed out on a great day.

    1 · April 5, 2014

  • Cindi

It was such a nice day for photographing flowers-soft light of a cloudy day- and we got there early enough that the flowers hadn't all been trampled down by the other photogs and tourists. Good planning, Calvin.

Beautiful day! Thanks Calvin and Joe for handling everything--really a fun trip.

    1 · April 5, 2014

I would probably not have gone if I hadn't signed up so it got me up there & I'm glad. Didn't stay with the group....nothing of interest this time in ChappHill, the lavender farm was boring at this time of year.....but I loved seeing the wildflowers & since that was the purpose, it was a success...

    1 · April 5, 2014

  • Pam S.

So glad you were able to convince Mother Nature to have the flowers in bloom and the rain hold off today. i had a great time - THANK YOU!!

  • Brent S.

Sorry, didn't see the status change until this morning.

    April 5, 2014

  • Rose

I just have a Nikon 1. I don't have a good DLSR yet, was hoping to meet other photogs and see what they use and only buy once (ha ha ha, like y'all don't own tons of equipment). I'll mostly be looking, trying some shots with my little shameful camera, and watching what y'all are doing. If someone has a ton of equipment I can help carry it, LOL.

I used to do lots of photography a million years ago, just want to re-learn equipment and principles and get my 'eye' back.

    1 · April 4, 2014

    • Joe L.

Don't worry Rose, you can't buy a "bad" camera now days. We have folks using really fancy tripods and mounts for their *iphone* -- and some of the results are pretty amazing. Any device that can record light is welcome in this group.

      April 4, 2014

    • Linda

Rose, I use my iPhone because of the great photo apps that I can use. I also have a Canon powershot G10 that I used on all my photowalks. Nobody cares what you shoot with. So come and enjoy shooting with a great bunch of photo walkers.

I work weekends, so Im gonna have to attend according to my work shifts :(

    April 4, 2014

  • Joe L.

Calvin: with this many people on the waiting list, do me a favor and keep copies of the emails meetup sends you when folks drop out with less than 24 hours notice. Want to make sure we don't accidently mark someone as a no-show if they had less than 24 hours notice when someone else drops out and should get the no-show instead. Thanks.

    1 · April 4, 2014

  • David

Sorry, I have to beg out as well. I was on the waiting list and found out today that a spot opened. I have already made alternate plans.

    April 4, 2014

  • Charles P.

Sorry for the late notice, but I have to bow out tomorrow.

    April 4, 2014

  • Paul G.

I just notice that sometime this morning I got moved up from the waitlist, I hated to give up my spot but have plans for tomorrow and I plan on making a trip to the area Sunday evening. Hope you guys get some of this awesome weather. Keep clicking!

Bummer Paul, sorry you can't make it.

      April 4, 2014

Hi Paul, I also like the idea of going in the afternoon/evening. Do you want some company?

      April 4, 2014

I had a reservation and changed to add +1.. I got put to waiting lists.. How do I fix this..

    April 4, 2014

I live near Dairy Ashford & Briar Forest and drive an SUV. I have a friend coming with me but have room for 2 people (or 1 more, if there's a LOT of camera equipment...LOL!)

not getting your PMs and I'm emailing you, too. It's not a filter problem. meetup.com is having serious problems with emails. I will have to cancel if I don't hear something tonight because I cannot take my car. I will wait till 11 pm. I'm sorry again for this going out to everyone. Betty, I emailed you my own email but if you are not getting my emails...

:( Hope everyone has a blast and I look forward to the next one!

    April 4, 2014

    • Joe L.

Sorry you can't make it Liana, we are working to remind folks to change their RSVPs with more than 24 hours notice so folks can plan. Sometimes it still happens though. :(

    Dianne Curtis

Michelle O and Rose...and anyone else.
There's a Stabucks on Jones Road and 290 where we could meet that morning. It's right before we head out of Houston. I'm in the Westchase area but if you're planning on taking 290 to these sites, it might be the easiest place to meet. I could use a driver and I will definitely chip in for gas. I'm putting 400 miles on my car each week and I'm just sick of driving by the weekend so I'd love to ride along, help navigate and pay for gas. Let me know if you want to meet there and head out together. I was on the wait list but it looks like I can go now. I'll cancel my other plans if this works out.

    April 1, 2014

    • Rose

What time to meet at the Starbucks?

      April 4, 2014

    • Husna M.

Dianne, I would love to have some company if you are still looking to carpool. I live nearby and plan on taking 290.

Sorry, have to cancel, which opens a spot up for someone else. Have fun, can't wait to see some of the pictures.

Yeyyy! We are in.... we are so happy. We changed all our other plans to be able to make it. It was great to have been in the waiting list for that long. I never thought we'd make it.

    1 · April 3, 2014

    • Joe L.

Folks think I'm kidding when I say always join the waiting list! :) And folks that no-show with a waiting list this long really take a chance of getting the boot.

      April 3, 2014

  • Matt S.

Sorry but we are not going to be able to make it. See you next week.

Yes there is a big lot at Chappell hill sausage company. The problem is that I have seen it full and over flowing with their customers. They also sometimes lot the gates early on Saturday. It's a great place to meet bit I do not want to over step our welcome.

Man, I am SO disappointed that I can no longer come, but it turns out that that Saturday is the only suitable one for my hubbie to help me with a garage / moving sale. As we are leaving the country shortly afterwards, this is kinda more of a big deal that it might seem…….!

Lol - now THERE's a thought! That would be very tempting, if only I didn't have to live with the consequences!

      March 23, 2014

    • Joe L.

Ha! Well Jan, I wish my wife would put everything we don't need out on the driveway and go away for the day leaving me in charge. It would be the "penny-day" sale to get rid of everything! :)

      March 23, 2014

  • Valerie

Which lens more suitable:[masked] or 50mm macro; or both?

    1 · March 23, 2014

    • Valerie

      It's a 2.8. I'll bring it. Thanks.

      March 23, 2014

    • Joe L.

Still bring the[masked] just in case, but you'll prob use the macro most. My wife uses the[masked] as her everyday walkaround lens. It has a good balance between lens quality and glass weight.

      March 23, 2014

  • Don

Ack...first time in, like, years I can go, and I am wait-listed. *sigh*

    1 · February 22, 2014

    • Krys W.

Hopefully some more folks will solidify their RSVP soon, and you will get bumped on :)

      March 23, 2014

    • Joe L.

Right, I've seen the wait list drain 30 people in less than a week at previous events. A lot of folks jump on the RSVPs to make sure they get a spot, then change their RSVP a week or two prior. Folks that change their RSVP with less than 24 or 48 hours notice are automatically set to "no-show". So, Don you should know your status at least the week prior to the event.

      March 23, 2014

  • Dawn A.

I look forward to going out in search of Blue Bonnets. Hopefully I will be able to come, but if not will be out by myself. No way can I miss Blue Bonnets!

    March 23, 2014

  • Cindi

    Can we be late?

    March 22, 2014

    • Joe L.

LOL, noooo! :) Calvin does roll call at 7am sharp, you know how he is! ;)

      March 22, 2014

  • Harry R.

New to the group and hope to join you.

    February 22, 2014

  • Julie G.

    So this is already full?

    February 21, 2014

    • Joe L.

Join the waiting list, as the event gets closer, people start to bail out. you have a good chance getting in if you sign up now.

      1 · February 21, 2014

  • Pam S.

Do I dare try again? I hope I can get to go.

    1 · February 21, 2014

  • Betty

Yay! I haven't done this in years and lately, I've been wanting to. Double thanks, Calvin!

    1 · February 21, 2014

  • Joe L.

Michael: HPW members chip in to help the organizers pay their gas money for scouting out locations. Also, I pay for any organizer's meal if they create a restaurant event. Its how the group says thanks to folks willing to do the legwork for setting up group events. Would you organize 221 events over 5 years and keep up with 30-50 people each day if there wasn't the occasional tip? If you don't want to pay, no problem, don't. But attend a photowalk / class / meal or two before getting too cranky about the way the group works. Also, feel free to send additional comments to me directly via private email. That way I don't have to respond publicly.
