We want to put flat owners in control of their own homes. This group is for aiding leaseholders to end managing agents and freeholders committing fraud against leaseholders. As MP Peter Botttomley stated "The industry is rife with fraud".
• Organisations like Arma-Q, Lease Advisory and RICS do not protect the consumer, nor do Tribunals who are part of the problem with their high charges and tendency to have little respect for the law or common sense. Non of their proceedings are recorded and their processes are rife with underhand practices as evidenced by the Dennis Jackson case and many others.
• If you are planning to use Leasehold Valuation Tribunal now called FTTPC First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) look at all the feedback on Twitter and see the documentary LVT - Not Fit for Purpose http://www.leaseholdknowledge.com/video-exposes-leasehold-horrors
If you have experience of the Tribunals and excessive charges let us know. Common practice is for the tender process to be seriously flawed.
• By over-specifying the tender, managing agents raised a job cost from £12k to over £120k. and knocked out smaller contractors by making it impossible for them to bid. They erroneously claimed that phase 1 was £60k at the Leasehold Tribunal. The managing director at the time failed to let them know he had lower quotes. This was for painting and decorating a small block of 4 flats!
Peter Bottomley MP, FOPRA, Nigel Wilkins and Leasehold Knowledge Partnership are campaigning to end exploitation of leaseholders. They anticipate some managing agents facing criminal charges for fraud.
