Circular Economy Workshop at Plant Chicago

This meetup concludes our "Design & Social Good" series. I’ve arrange a workshop with Plant Chicago to learn about circular economies. The Plant is food industry incubator that is aiming to build a closed loop with an open source approach. In a circular economy, conventional waste streams from one process are repurposed as inputs for another, creating a circular, closed-loop model of material reuse.

The Plant used to be a Peer Foods meatpacking (pigs) plant. Now this 93,500 sq. ft. facility is a collaborative community of small food businesses, all focused on growing, producing, and/or sourcing a variety of food products. The Plant currently houses over a dozen small businesses, including indoor and outdoor farms, kombucha and beer breweries, a bakery, a cheese distributor, a coffee roaster, and other emerging food producers and distributors.

“Develop a deeper understanding of closed loop systems through supervised, interactive projects. Workshops are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards.”

No books to read beforehand. Space is very limited. We have *20 total spots* that we've prepaid and reserved.

The workshop will last about 1.5 hours. Afterwards we’ll head down to the first floor and visit the Whiner Brewery to have a beer (not included in ticket price) and socialize. Feel free to invite whomever to meet the group at the brewery. No ticket or RSVP required to visit the brewery.
