What we're about

Mission Statement: The Humanist Community of Ventura County is a welcoming social environment offering fellowship for those committed to secular values and community service.

Humanism is a progressive lifestance that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead meaningful, ethical lives capable of adding to the greater good of humanity. Essentially, we're your friendly neighborhood non-believers who are here to show the world that we're “good without god.” While others have churches, temples, and mosques; there are no similar groups for people who take a more pragmatic non-supernatural approach to dealing with life's dilemmas. More than anything, we provide support and a safe, positive sense of community among local Ventura County Humanists!

We meet for discussion groups monthly, as well as social gatherings, outdoor activities, and community service projects. We welcome people in all stages of life; singles, couples, families, and senior citizens. If you identify as atheist, agnostic, secular, skeptic, humanist, or even Jeffersonian deist and looking for like-minded folks, you have found a your people.

We are a Charter Chapter of the American Humanist Association, and the international charity Foundation Beyond Belief. We have nonprofit 501(c)(3) status, so donations are tax deductible and we participate in community events as such. We support and network with other like minded groups in our region, state and nation. See our website for more information. www.HCoVC.com .

All are welcome; we hope to meet you soon!

Humanist Dinner at "Tarantula Hill Brewing Co"

Tarantula Hill Brewing Co.

"Sapere aude"!* We will have a monthly gathering to be with friends. Will usually happen the first Friday but may change to avoid holidays. It rotates around the county so it could be Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Ventura, etc.. But don't wait till it comes to your area, or you'll miss meeting some really fun people outside your bubble! *Sapere aude is the Latin phrase meaning “Dare to know”; and also is loosely translated as “Dare to be wise”, or even more loosely as "Dare to think for yourself!" It is the motto for the entire period of the Enlightenment, and Kant used it to develop his theories of the application of reason in the public sphere of human affairs. ABOUT Tarantula Brewing Co. It's really big, with 22,000-square-foot, stand-alone building and a 3700 ft outdoor patio on T.O. Blvd. Local Mike Richmond returns home from Stone Brewing in San Diego, UC Davis & DC to bring the best of West Coast brewing and fun. Newly opened to the delight of many, it is the new hot spot in Ventura County. • What to bring: Your appetite for food & and social gathering where thoughts, passions and concerns are there to share. If you want to bring a friend or family member, they are welcomed too! • Important to know: This is a safe place to discuss any topic relating to politics, religion, taboos, society in general or recent news. It is a night of "free inquiry" and open discussion. If you are having difficulty with a dilemma or looking articulate a viewpoint, we are there for you.
