HSGP March in Phoenix Pride Parade 2013

Get ready to march in the Phoenix Pride Parade!

Saturday, April 6, 2013

Join HSGP as we celebrate Equality and Justice for all at the Phoenix Pride Parade! This year, HSGP is sending a contingent to show our support to the gay community!

Please wear an HSGP or Humanist T-shirt. If you do not have one, send Michal a message with your shirt size, and she will bring one for you. You can also buy one at HSGP before the event.

After the Parade, feel free to join us as we explore the Pride Festival (Single day admission $15, Two-day admission $25). The Festival will take place at the end of the Parade route, at Steele Indian School Park. This year’s 32nd Annual Phoenix Pride Festival is a two day celebration with live performances, art, food, drink, and fun activities!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Parade registration and line-up begins 8:00am and ends at 9:30am. The Parade starts promptly at 10:00am. Please arrive by 9:15 so we are in place and ready to go when the parade starts.

This was a great event! We passed out at least 50 HSGP pamphlets to random parade watchers, & a few pll even requested one. It was really inspiring to see how much of our community turned out to support LGBT equality (especially in contrast to the tiny, cordoned-off group of hateful "Christian" protesters, waving their angry signs).
We should bring more ppl next time, and make sure to have a booth a the festival staffed. Someone (Michal?) suggested teaming up next year w/ members of the Phx Atheists Meetup Group.

How did it go? I hope there was a great turnout, not just from HSGP but overall.

    Hi all,

Here's a little more info about the day of the event.

    1. If members want to wear any other gay pride types decorations (i.e., rainbow or multi-colored boas, hats, beads, etc), that is definitely encouraged. I will try to bring a few items for people. 2. I will be bringing several sizes/colors of HSGP T-shirts for those who do not have one. 3. Check-in is at 3rd Street and Windsor. Justin and I will be checking in early and then will wait for everyone else in that area. I will email out my phone number a day or two in advance so people can call to find me that morning. 4. A lot of streets will be closed off for this event and I am sure parking will be a nightmare. We plan to arrive via the Light Rail. You can get off at the Thomas Rd/Central Ave Light Rail Station before the parade. After the parade, you can hop back onto the light rail at the Indian School/Central Light Rail Station.

I have two questions: 1) Do HSGP members need to do anything prior to the day of the event (besides the T-shirts), and 2) Are we planning to meet in a specific location at the event, i.e. how will we find each other?

I would like to carpool with anyone to this event. We would meet at the Humanist Community Center.

I believe that I'm going. If we have more people who want to carpool, then the HCC works. Otherwise, my house may work better.

This sounds like fun. Unfortunately, April 15th is just around the corner and I'll have tax returns to work on. I hope there's a great turnout!
