2014 Jump-start

Join Humanists Doing Good as we begin a new year in 2014 together. We'd like this year to be a year dedicated to member input, fresh ideas and further involvement for everyone. We'll be meeting for the first time at the Mesa County Central Public Library on Grand Avenue in the new community room. We have had a lot of new people join us lately so we'll be doing some rounds of random questions for people to learn a little bit about one another. If you haven't attended an event yet this will be a great way to meet everyone. We would also like to receive member input about the upcoming year and discuss plans for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Is there a project or event you'd like to see us do this year? Bring your ideas and let's work together to make 2014 great!

I liked lots of great ideas yesterday! I'm looking forward to 2014 and appreciate all Jesse and Velvet and Wade and the board do!

I enjoyed getting to know a little more about HDG's organization.
Jesse and Velvet obviously devote a lot of time to organizing and efficiently presenting all that needs to be covered.
Since (it's been said) there are quite a few new members, it would be nice to have a few minutes at the beginning of each get together to just mingle, introduce ourselves and get to know something about each other before proceeding with the necessary business at hand.
I've been to 3 meetings now and haven't had that opportunity as much as I would have liked.

Thanks for your feedback, Peter. We try to make sure that we have at least one social event per month and our last one was during the holiday season, which was tough for many people to attend. We'll work on incorporating your suggestions in the future. It was our hope that doing the rounds of questions and answers at the last meeting would help people get to know each other a bit more, but that time may have been better invested in simply letting people mingle or something as you suggest.

I forgot to mention my strange coincidence last night. I was up all night with our ailing cat. This caused me to be flicking through television channels as I watched over our cat. To my surprise, I saw Streets of Fire being played and caught it from the beginning.

It was great to hear all the ideas and input from other members. 2014 promises to be a great year for us!

I am very excited that there are 21 RSVP's for this event. I would encourage everyone who has RSVP'd to show up and help HDG move forward. For those of you who are living on the western slope and are non-religious and interested in Humanism, this group is really wonderful, and deserves support. I had the honor to serve on the board until recently, when I moved to New Mexico. HDG is very active, and really makes a difference. They organize educational and social functions, and do a lot of volunteer work. I have already found that the Humanist group in Albuquerque, a much larger city than Grand Junction, doesn't do half as much as HDG. Bring your ideas, and support this great organization! Wish I could be there.

This will be my first contact. I want to pay dues and become a full member. I'm really looking forward to making new, humanist friends!

Sorry I cannot attend this first meeting (first for me, anyway). The time frame conflicts with my family obligations
