What we're about

You'll need to be fully vaccinated against COVID to participate in any in-person Humpday Hike activities. Other COVID precautions will be communicated clearly before each outing and politely but strictly enforced while we're together. -Ed

We hike during the middle part of the week because we can. Most of our outings will be 7 to 10 miles at a moderate pace, 750 to 1800 vertical feet, and often somewhat off the beaten path. We will try to experience something new each time to give members a chance to grow and learn. Our goals are more social, experiential, and educational, although you do need to be in reasonably good shape to enjoy the hikes. We're all grateful for the wonderful people who make this group so much fun!

Note: No Shows and late cancellations can have a significant impact on other group members by keeping someone on the Waitlist from being able to go. Please, just be considerate. If your plans change, we expect you will take yourself off of the Going list or the Waitlist with as much notice as possible.

Larry Chitwood Trail, Badlands

Whole Foods Market

DESCRIPTION: 7 miles round trip, 200 vertical feet, moderate pace. A fun hike for this time of year in the "quiet corner" of the Badlands. Trails should be firm sand. If it's clear, we'll have good views in all directions. There are a few little ridges and outcroppings to explore off trail if people want. We'll also do a little map and compass navigation practice along the way. Bring a compass if you have one.

Smith Rock: Burma Rd, Summit Trail, River Trail

Best Buy

HIKE DESCRIPTION: 7.5 miles, 1200 vertical ft, medium pace. This will be a circle route from the main parking lot down across the bridge, up Burma Road (as steep as Misery Ridge, and 50% higher), down the Summit Trail, around on the River Trail, then back across the bridge and up to the parking lot.

There will also be an option for part of the group to come up the back side of Misery Ridge on the return. It cuts 1 mile of distance but adds 650 vertical feet.

Please note: Smith Rock requires dogs to be on a 6' leash at all times in the park.
