Arkham Horror and Halloween Party!

Halloween Party!  We'll play Arkham Horror till the Cosmic Evil Eats Our Eternal Souls!

We can mix hanging out and playing more games if there is the will.

I can also run some horror movies on the TV downstairs.

Horrific edibles will be available and potluck contributions appreciated.

The house will be spooked up and costumes encouraged.

Anyone coming as a specific Arkham Horror character will be guaranteed to play that character if they wish.  If multiple versions of the character shows up, the "best" one will get it (by vote of the players at the board), unless there are multiple boards going.  Speaking of which, if someone could contribute an extra board or two, I'd open up additional tables.  Or even if not, other Halloween themed games are available including Betrayal on House on the Hill, Mansions of Madness, Touch of Evil, Elder Sign, and Ghost Stories.  Feel free to announce your plans to come as a character to better coordinate.  Here is a list of the characters: http://www.arkhamhorrorwiki.com/Investigator

Here is a list of which ones tend to do the best: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AliZyklaTCWzdEszdXpoRVJQNGltTU5wMi1qWEJnQkE&hl=en#gid=4

In case you don't know the game:

This is a cooperative game in which you take the role of the various characters from the 20s and seek to save the town (and the world) from Ancient Evil, which is seeking to break through to our world. Basically you run around the town, visiting the town locations to gather up goodies, beat up monsters, and seal up the gates to other dimensions. Things are usually pretty desperate and the ambience of horror tends to be fun. The game mechanics are a little complicated but it's pretty straightforward once you pick it up (and since it's cooperative, your fellow players will be trying to help you out).

Including explanations for new players, I expect this to take about 5-6 hours.

Our table faced the cosmic interloper Yog-Sothoth! After an initial strong start, we started getting bogged down with bad luck even as the Doom Track ticked closer to its fatal conclusion. Things looked darkest when Aaron's Lily Chen faced the Ancient Evil Ithaqua himself on the icy Plateau of Leng. As we prepared our condolences, Lily suddenly leapt up and planted her fist in his face! Ithaqua soon found that his power to blow away the weapons of his foes did little good against a martial artist. Lily took his head home as a trophy, sealing the gate. Meanwhile Jacob's Ashcan Pete and Jonny's Monterey Jack were taking down the monsters back home like Ash in Evil Dead, with 37 and 21 points each! My David Drake the magician provided magical support, Matie's Sister Mary took down gates armed with her trusty rifle, and Erik's intrepid Darrell Simons kept Kingsport from coming apart at the seams. We managed to close the sixth gate only three doom tokens away from final destruction!

Yes I think I will show up for the noon tutorial since I only played the game once and I need refreshed.

    Agreed! Yes to both. :)

Chris, if you are planning on coming to the noon tutorial, you should call me at least ten minutes beforehand as otherwise I will need to be manning the fort. Otherwise, I'm sure I can find a volunteer to make the run as the Metro is quite close by car.

Yes to both, though I might not be at the big table, and Chris should get Joe's phone # (I will send you mine, too).

Is it possible for someone to pick me up at the metro entrance? It's quite a trek from the metro.

Cars are good for mowing down baddies. So I'm going to be late...maybe 30-40 mins. Any chance someone can play as my surrogate on the big table until I arrive (in addition to playing their own character)? I know the games do not usually start exactly at 1 but I'd hate to miss out because I get there 10 mins after you guys start. Let me know.

Arkham Horror is a cooperative game so it's okay if you haven't played before as your fellow gamers will be helping you out. Nonetheless, it's a tad complicated so I'll be providing a tutorial starting at noon on how to play. If you wish to attend the tutorial, please show up at exactly noon as it will be much easier for me if everyone is there from the start.

I think I may come dressed as Aaron, the Brilliant Legal Investigator. I understand he comes with a BMW for his starting equipment.

Btw, the speed trap is near the crest of the hill where you make your turn onto Silk Tree Rd. A little to the west of that.
