Need A Dance Partner? Message Board › MeetUp Meeting this Week

MeetUp Meeting this Week

Ann M.
Dallas, TX
Thank you to those of you that joined us for dinner at Sherlocks on Monday.  (Mary, Jenna, Kathy, Gabrielle, Joy, Helen, Stephen, Lee, Margie, Robert and John)  I appreciate your help and your feedback.  I've paid for the next three months of the MeetUp dues and I would like to meet again in 3 months just to see how we are doing.
I also appreciate those of you who have offered to take signs, to post events and to do what you can do to keep the group humming along.  A few things that we talked about:

  • Moving forward, each person that joins the MeetUp group will need to post a photo.  How can we find you if we don't know what you look like? For those of you who are members, please add your photos to your profile.  As of January 1, those members without a photo will be removed from the site.
  • If you go to an event, and no one is listed as a host, there probably will not be a MeetUp sign at the event.  I will not be posting all of the dance events, lessons and venues in the area unless I plan to be there.  We'll try that option, and maybe that will eliminate the confusion that's happened in the past. It's going to make it even more important that people post events to the calendar.  We do have lots of new members, and people who are new to the area...they would love to come out to dance, but they need a little help from those of us who are dancers in the group.
  • It looks like we have a huge MeetUp group of 840 members.  A very large portion of that group have never logged in since their initial sign up to the group--or RSVP'd for any events.  If you haven't visited the MeetUp site in the past 6 months, you should log in to have yourself marked as an active member.  If you are checking in on the phone, that may not register on the web site.  If you are accessing the MeetUp site through an app on your phone please send me an email asking not to be deleted. If you are deleted by accident, please rejoin the group.
  • If you're not happy, rather than sending emails to me to tell me what a rotten group this is, please just leave the group.  It's far less hurtful, and there may be a group out there that better suits your needs. Or...start your own MeetUp group, that might help you appreciate the challenge of trying to keep everyone happy.  :)

For those who sent me encouraging emails, thank you.  It meant a lot to me, and it's because of those kind emails and conversations with friends that I decided to hang on to this group for another three months.  Learning to dance and starting this group changed my life.  It wasn't easy in the beginning but I've felt it has been well worth the effort and the time.
I hope that if you have been holding back and are still pondering this learning to dance thing that you will make yourself a goal or a resolution in 2014 to take that first step on a dance floor.  It can be life changing, and something that you will be proud of and never regret.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2014!

P.S. Here are the links to the pdf for the MeetUp sign as well as instructions for adding an event to the MeetUp calendar.
