Give Blood! (MIEA)

Want to help people, but don't have a lot of disposable income?  Or, want to help people, but worried your monetary contributions will be eaten up by overhead and administrative perks at non-profits?  Or perhaps you already give money to your favorite charities, but are interested in helping even more.

I personally believe that giving blood is the most impactful thing you can do to help others.  One donation can save up to 3 lives.  And it only takes about half an hour, most of which is sitting there watching TV and eating cookies.

Everyone who donates on Monday gets  a free sub sandwich afterward! (while supplies last)

When you check in at the front, tell them you want to donate to "MIEA", that is our group's identifier.  If everyone is there together, then great, but you can come earlier, or later, or on a different day altogether.  The important thing is the donation and mentioning our group's name at check in.

Do not take anything with aspirin in it 48 hours prior to donation.  Eat something with iron in it, or you won't pass the iron test.  Drink at least a bottle of water before donating, it'll prevent you from passing out, and it'll speed things up.  For more information, visit

I will not actually be able to attend this Meetup, as I have moved to Taiwan for a year.  The recurring event RSVPs "yes" for me automatically.  If you're willing to take over as organizer for this series of events, please contact an assistant organizer and have them make the changes.  Thanks everyone, keep givin that blood!

They don't ask about sexuality per se, but they ask you if you are a man who has had sex with other men. That being said, this meetup is still up because I think it's a good idea, albeit the organizer is in Taiwan for at least a year. Go give blood anyway, if you can.

Are you sure they'll let atheists donate?
What if I don't answer the sexual orientation question? It saya a unit of blood can save 3 people, will they be killing 3 people by turning me away?

Do they really ask your sexual preferences? Wow!
