• SKIPPING CHURCH - MEMBERS SPEAK - Havish Kota
“Skipping Church – Members Speak” WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT HOW CARBON LIFE FIRST APPEARED ON EARTH - HAVISH KOTA As newly affiliated with the American Humanist Association, the IEAA seeks to help achieve the goodness and fullness of life by gathering and sharing in fellowship, community organization, prioritizing our engagement with the larger world and galvanizing the humanist outlook as a voting block for our like-minded members. On the second Sundays (third Sunday this month) of the month and for our main, monthly meeting, we hold our speakers’ series program, “Skipping Church – Members Speak”. There will be a social time and catered lunch beginning at 1:30 PM, a short speech about a local philanthropic opportunity and then one of our own members speaking for about 40-45 minutes on their choice of a subject then followed up by 15 minutes or more of Q&A. Mingling with your community has been proven to enhance your sense of well-being* so please come and join us. Get to know our members better in the group by hearing them speak on what is important to them and learn something amazing at the same time. Our group will provide an accepting community where you can feel comfortable no matter your race, creed and sexual orientation as well as you being an important and appreciated part. Make some new friends and rekindle old friendships. Find a place and purpose to volunteer. Join in with your friends and community as we become more engaged in spreading our values throughout our larger community. Keep your heart happy and full. $5.00 Entry and includes the drink bar – coffee, tea, lemonade, water, more. $5.00 Assorted sandwiches, chips, salads and desserts (Vegetarian options available) $5.00 for kids 12 and under for lunch and includes drink (no entry fee for kids, $10 max total for 2 or more kids) Kids may stay in the adjoining room right next to us and entertain themselves. Come early at 1 PM when the library opens and check them out some books. You must be available to jump up if they need you. There is a rotating volunteer signup forming for the kids group to have an adult sit with them during the lecture. Tell your friends with kids they are more than welcome to come. We love to see your kids! Contact me for more information. *Gallup polls across 130 countries show that people with higher personal wellbeing are more likely to say they give time, money, or help to their communities. In fact, do-gooders are twice as likely to consider themselves "thriving," rather than "suffering." • What we'll do - Have you heard of mindfulness? Mindfulness is the practice of being in the present without judgment. Check out this link to Sam Harris’ description of mindfulness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iwac6Uk-zyk Here’s your opportunity to learn how to practice mindfulness meditation within a non-religious community. Mindfulness meditation research has shown to be very beneficial for our mental, emotional, and physical health. Come to have fun, learn, grow, and be a part of a new group of people…people who are present and living for this life – not the after life! This Mindfulness Group meets Sunday mornings to learn, practice, and share about Mindfulness. • Important to know Beginners are welcome. I will teach you about the mind/body connection, guide you through a meditation, and then we will have discussion and conversation afterward.

  • Weekly Mount Rubidoux Fun Hike!
Join us for a FUN event EVERY Sunday morning! WE WILL BE MEETING AT THE BASE OF THE BUENA VISTA BRIDGE and then proceeding to the 9th St. entrance. Want to have fun and stay healthy too? Join us for some exercise AND enjoy the wonders of nature at the same time! This exercise is fun and the views from the top are absolutely awesome! It takes about 45 minutes to hike up and a half hour down. This is an easy hike, but may be strenuous for anyone who is not in good physical condition. Bring a bottle of water and wear comfortable shoes. DIRECTIONS: Mount Rubidoux Memorial Park is located on the western edge of downtown Riverside, just a few minutes off the 91 Freeway. From the 91 Freeway exit at the Mission Inn / University Off-Ramp and proceed west on Mission Inn Boulevard to Mt. Rubidoux Dr. (Just before the bridge). Turn right on Mt. Rubidoux Dr. and try to find parking. PLEASE try to arrive a few minutes early because we like to start the hike on time. We will be meeting at the base of the Buena Vista Bridge near the intersection of Mission Inn Blvd. and Mt. Rubidoux Dr. PLEASE RSVP since we will wait a while at the start point IF we know you are coming and you are a little late. Friendly dogs are welcome but remember that dogs must be on a short leash. No toilets in the park. FREE parking on Mt. Rubidoux Dr. and 6th St., but be careful since some of the streets are residents only parking. PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THE PARKING SIGNS SINCE THERE ARE LOTS OF RESTRICTIONS ON PARKING IN THE AREA. MUCH OF THE PARKING IS RESERVED FOR RESIDENTS WITH PERMITS! TICKETS ARE LIBERALLY DISPENSED BY PARKING ENFORCEMENT FREE admission to the park.

  • Everyone's Night Out
Join us for dinner, discussion, and an all-around good time! Everyone is welcome to attend; this event is low-pressure and so is great for first-timers, and is family friendly. We will initially meet in the restaurant lobby, before going to our table which will be under my name (Kathy). Late comers are welcome (within reason!), but please RSVP as if you were arriving on time so we can secure a large enough table.

  • Market Night Ask An Atheist Booth
    • What we'll do Our Ask An Atheist Booth has received a recent remodel & upgrade with new signs, chairs, T-shirts, and pamphlets. Come on out everyone is welcome! There are MANY ways you can help with this event! 1) the cost of the booth is $50.00, so please consider donating a $ or 2 by clicking the "chip-in" button on this site. It is easy to use! 2) Help set up the booth: if all you have time for is to help set it up, that'd be totally okay! You can help mount it, and then go if you need to. 3) Help tear it down: If all you have time for is to help tear down the booth, that'd be just fine! 4)Support: If you are shy about working the booth, come show up anyway and just hang out (on the other side!) It looks great to have a large gathering of people outside the booth. 5) If you can work it, but can't stay the entire time, no problem. Just let us know what you're able to work. For those of you who've never been, this is a very positive, energizing event! Almost everyone who stops by is genuinely curious about what we're about. Often those who come over to talk are excited and relieved to know there are Atheists in this town, and to find out about FAR and the IEAA. • What to bring We need at least 2 people for set up and 2 people for tear down. • Important to know
