- Developing Capacities for Self-Healing - Last Full Moon Meditation of the year
The Vedic Cultural Centre
You are cordially invited to this last Full Moon Meditation of the Year focusing on the ancient practices from the Himalayan tradition of cultivating capacities for self-healing by experiencing deeper states of silence and stillness. Please bring a shawl or a blanket and perhaps a small cushion/pillow. HOW BEGINNERS MAY PARTICIPATE Swami Veda Bharati Those who have not learnt to meditate before, but would like to join meditations on the Full Moon Days, may ask for the booklet titled Beginning Meditation and a cassette of guided meditation. Till then, and till you have had the opportunity to take some training in correct way of sitting and the correct way of breathing, the simple procedure to follow is : (1) Sit as straight as you can on an even, firm but cushioned surface (2) Relax your forehead (3) Relax your facial and physical musculature (4) Bring your awareness to your breathing. (5) Breathe slowly, gently, smoothly, evenly; without jerk or sound in the breathing (6) Now feel the touch and flow of the breath in the nostrils (7) Let there be no pause between the breaths; as one breath is completed, begin to feel the next breath flowing and touching in the nostrils (8) After a few breaths, choose (a) whichever name of God is your favourite according to your tradition or religion, (b) or a sacred but short phrase or prayer word from your scripture or tradition Some suggestions are as follows : (a) Those who wish to follow the Himalayan tradition may use the sound so in the in-breath and ham in the outbreath, without a break in the cycles of ham-so with the breath (b) The Sikhs may use : Vaah-e-guru (c) Muslims may use the word La ilaha illa Allah (d) Christians may use one of these : Jesus, Ave Maria, Hail Mary, Maranatha (Aramaic) Kyrie eleison (or Greek) (e) Mazdayasnians (Zoroastrians, Parsees) may use any of these : ahura mazda ahuu va-iryo esham vohu but for total beginners of the Mazdayasnian tradition the best recommendation is to use the phrase vohu-mano (f) The Jainas may use Om, Om hreem, or Hreem arham (g) Those who prefer total nirguna, transcendental, trans-qualitative divinity may use only Om (h) The Buddhists may use the word Buddho to start with (i) If you do not believe in a form of divinity or spiritual incarnation and so forth, exhaling, think Ooooonnnne (One) inhaling, think twwwooooo (Two) – without a break in this count with the breath (9) Exhaling, think that phrase; inhaling think that phrase. The phrase is not to come in the mouth nor on the tongue; it must me only a mentation. (10) Let there be no break between the breaths, nor between the incessant flow of the thoughts of the same phrase (11) As soon as you become aware that you have lost the flow and other thoughts have begun to arise, re-start the same procedure (12) Sit for as long as you wish. (14) Let the quietness of the mind continue even after you rise (13) If you practice this even for 2-3 minutes at a time many times in the day, you will notice subtle changes in yourself for the better (14) Whatever you will do repeatedly with the mind, that will become the mind’s habit; calming the mind repeatedly will return your mind to its calm nature.
- Workshop on Exploring the Power of Eight
Late last year we held a well-attended introductory session on Lynne McTaggart's Power of Eight. The captioned quote by Lynne McTaggart resonates with the understanding reached by the sages of the past emerging from deep meditative states, that the highest layer of our mind - Intellect (Buddhi), the finest, subtlest evolute of the Matter Principal - when connected to that which cannot be explained or even understood by the mind, has the capacity for self-healing and perhaps, through the power of intention, even helping others. Join us in exploring the emerging scientific interest in what spiritual masters have been telling us for centuries…The Power of Intuitive Connections Our local community group - Ontario Friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences – has been invited to explore the possibility of holding informal workshops, more like gatherings of members in small groups interested in pursuing emerging trends in Intentionality. Ms. McTaggart has been closely associated with pioneering work being done in this field at IONS by senior scientists like Dean Radin and has addressed several IONS Conferences including the last one held in Oakland California June 2017 on The Science of What Connects us. In this meet-up, we will combine elements of Lynne’s Power Of Eight and some of the more well-known age-old practices from the ancient wisdom traditions towards self-healing. The attendance will be limited to the first 15 signing up for the meetup with those on the waitlist being invited for the next four workshops By way of other updates on the Institute of Noetic Sciences, please visit: https://www.noetic.org/ https://www.noetic.org/education/overview https://www.noetic.org/research/overview Stay Connected by Signing up for our email list, meet us at Events, Participate in Research. - Trends in Intentionality: Join us in establishing Power of Eight Workshops
Join us in exploring the emerging scientific interest in what spiritual masters have been telling us for centuries…The Power of Intuitive Connections A few weeks ago, we received a couple of phone calls from the office of Lynne McTaggart, architect of the Intention Experiment (https://lynnemctaggart.com/the-intention-experiment/)s, to participate in a very ambitious major international Peace Intention Experiment for the Middle East on Nov 9, 2017. Our local community group - Ontario Friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences – was also invited to explore the possibility of holding informal workshops, more like gatherings of members in small groups interested in pursuing emerging trends in Intentionality. Ms. McTaggart has been closely associated with pioneering being done in this field at IONS by senior scientists like Dan Radin and has addressed several IONS Conferences including the last one held in Oakland California Jun 23-27, 2017 on The Science of What Connects us. She is an award-winning journalist and the author of seven books, including her forthcoming book, The Power of Eight, and the worldwide bestsellers The Field (https://lynnemctaggart.com/the-field-book/), The Intention Experiment (https://lynnemctaggart.com/the-intention-experiment-book/) and The Bond (https://lynnemctaggart.com/the-bond/), all considered seminal books of the New Science and now translated into 30 languages. She has appeared in several documentaries, including What the Bleep?! and Down the Rabbit Hole, I Am, The Abundance Factor, and The Healing field. After several years of experimenting with small and large groups, in recent years Lynne McTaggart has been focussing on the Power of Eight, phenomenon – the fact that intention magnifies and rebounds in a small group, which is presently being studied by a major university The extraordinary success of Power of Eight recently culminated in a major international Peace Intention Experiment for the Middle East. On November 9, 2017, Lynne McTaggart revealed her remarkable findings on the dynamic of group intention and its power to heal ourselves. On that day upwards of 1,800 people from across the globe, but with a large presence of Palestinians and their Jewish neighbors many of whom had not had any direct communications with each other, expressed deep transformative experiences during the course of the 45minute event video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=q2HW-6dN8oo In Lynne's own words the overall effect of this extraordinary gathering was summed up as follows: Quote……. “We’ve finally got back the video of my Middle Eastern Peace Intention Experiment, and I urge you to watch it for what it shows about the power of group intention to melt the hardest of hearts and heal the greatest divisions, among individuals or indeed an entire people. You’ll see nine screens – one with an audience of Israelis in Jerusalem, seven with audiences from various cities in Arab countries – Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Tunisia, Oman, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi – and one with me. Please watch what happened to the Arabs and Israelis in the various countries after the experiment, and how this kind of group endeavor may well be the blueprint for creating peace on earth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=q2HW-6dN8oo All of us came together to send intention to the Old City of Jerusalem, which has four sections – Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Armenia. It’s a symbolic gesture of peace because it is a place that truly belongs to the entire world. We chose Damascus Gate because it has suffered increased violence after new security measures were put in place. Many of our participants cried during the event, but the most amazing part of all was what happened afterward. Through the ingenuity of Dr. Al-Rashed’s technical team, each group from the different countries were able to speak to me and to the people in the other eight windows. This was more than a historic first as many Arabs and Israelis have never seen images of each other before, let alone had an opportunity to communicate. Their only knowledge of ‘the other’ was what the politicians and the press have fed them. Arabs from Saudi Arabia sent love to the Jews in the audience in Jerusalem. An Israeli woman there sent love back and said it was high time the women from all countries got together. ‘Your God is my God,’ said an Arab from Abu Dhabi. People on both sides were crying and laughing as they recognized the common humanity in each other. This was truly history unfolding before our eyes. Last night we proved one simple truism. To solve a seemingly intractable political situation, you don’t need politicians. You don’t need violence or guns. All you need is people coming together…. “ Unquote In this meet-up, we will share our own reflections on the Power of Collective Intentions, and explore the possibility of holding a few workshops in the New Year on combining elements of Lynne’s Power Of Eight and some of the more well-known age-old practices from the ancient wisdom traditions.

Once you free your mind, your body will naturally relax. Having relaxed your body, feel the flow of you breath, breathing gently, smoothly, slowly. As you exhalation ends, immediately prepare your mind that, without a gap, the awareness of the inhalation will begin. As you inhale, prepare your mind at the end to begin the awareness of the inhalation, without a gap. Resolve in your mind that for the next two minutes there will be no extraneous thoughts, only the feel of your breath. Make the resolve and begin now. And without breaking the flow, continuing the awareness, gently open your eyes. Resolve in your mind again and again to enter this state many, many times during the day. Whenever there is a minute available you can come to the pacification of senses and a calming of the disturbances. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ “In meditation one tries to calm the body and the senses, to calm the mind, and become what’s called “the silent witness,” the witness beyond the mind. We in the West think that the mind is everything, but all Eastern practice is to get beyond the mind to the point of the silent witness, where you’re witnessing yourself, where you’ve gone beyond the ego, beyond the self. The Indian tradition rests on what the West has largely lost: that there are three levels. There is the level of the body and the level of the mind, which the Western world thinks is the end. But beyond the body is the spirit. It’s the Atman, the pneuma of St. Paul, another dimension where we go beyond the mind, the senses, and the feelings, and we’re aware of the transcendent reality. And that is the goal of life, to get to that.” — Father Bede Griffiths

- Creating a New Vision of Aging: An Introduction to IONS Conscious Aging Program
Creating a New Vision of Aging: An Introduction to IONS Conscious Aging Program by Marilyn Daniels The dominant story of aging in the West is one of loss, diminishment and decline. But research has proved that the quality of life we can expect as we age is largely determined by our consciousness and the vision and expectations we hold of aging. Today, increasing number of older adults are changing the paradigm of aging by refusing to be relegated to the scrap heap by cultural assumptions of decline and ageism. Instead, they savor and live life on their own terms while seeing their generation as a force that can change the tide of history. This workshop is an introduction to the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) Conscious Aging program (http://www.noetic.org/conscious-aging-workshops). Tested and developed by IONS over a four-year period, the focus of the program series is to invite shifts of consciousness that allow participants to confront the challenges and opportunities of aging. Because negative myths about aging limit everyone, this interactive workshop is for those of all ages, both the young and those facing their elder years. ********** Marilyn Daniels is passionate about the contribution that elders’ gifts and wisdom can make to the future of our world. A captivating keynote speaker and storyteller, seasoned facilitator and certified coach, Marilyn helps emerging elders develop a new vision of aging, one that includes contentment, community and contribution. A seasoned facilitator, speaker and transformative leadership coach, Marilyn is licensed by The Institute of Noetic Sciences to facilitate IONS Conscious Aging workshops. To learn more about her please visit: http://wisdomleadershipstudio.com/aging-eldering/ http://www.noetic.org/education/conscious-aging# As part of our tradition and to promote fellowship, members generally bring something light by way of a refreshment to share with a new friend.
- A special presentation -The Worldview Explorations Project
In broadening our knowledge of the nature and potentials of the intuitive mind, the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) focuses on six broad themes in support of individual and collective transformation through Consciousness research. One of these themes is the The Worldview Explorations Project in which worldviews are the filters through which people see and sense the world and their place in it. Worldviews - individually held and culturally shared - operate mostly outside of our awareness and are influenced by many factors such as family, politics, religion, and community, among others. http://noetic.org/education/worldview/overview While the Program is aimed at middle school to college students, the lessons apply equally to all of us on the premise that the more we encounter and engage with other worldviews, the more we develop compassion, empathy, and understanding. An Ontario Friend of IONS, Jennifer Damianidis, an educator within Ontario Board of Education has had a very keen interest in The Worldview Explorations Project. Worldview Explorations Curriculum » (http://www.noetic.org/education/worldview/curriculum) Jennifer has attended several workshops including at the recent IONS Conference in Chicago and has graciously offered to facilitate and to lead us through some core tenets of this research based experiential program. Time permitting, we will watch a brief Video of one of the keynote addresses at the recent Conference attended by close to 1000 members and which attracted some very sough after Neuroscientists, Futurologists and Visionaries. In keeping with our tradition to promote fellowship and camaraderie, our members generally bring something very small by way of a refreshment to share with a new friend.
