What we’re about

We're a group of local WordPress developers, designers, and publishers who get together to share our knowledge and experience and to meet other WordPress users in the area. This WordPress Meetup is open to all who love WordPress --- join us!

WordPress Global Community Sponsors help fund WordPress Meetup groups and WordCamps around the world. Thanks to WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, Nexcess, Bluehost, and Weglot, for their support!

  • WordPress Meetups benefit the WordPress community as a whole, not specific businesses or individuals. All actions taken as an event organizer are with the best interest of the community in mind.

  • Membership in the local meetup group is open to all who wish to join, regardless of ability, skill, financial status, or other criteria.

  • Meetups are volunteer-run with volunteer speakers. In cases where a modest attendance fee might be necessary, this fee should only cover the costs of the meetup and shouldn’t be used to pay speakers or organizers.

  • Meetup groups allow events to be organized by any reliable/trusted member of the community.

  • Meetups are welcoming places where everyone works to foster an accepting environment that is free of discrimination, incitement to violence, promotion of hate, and general jerk-like behavior.

Suggesting Meetup Events

Any member of this Meetup group can organize an event and is encouraged to do so --- the more events we have at different times and in different parts of town, the more people will be able to be involved in some kind of WordPress Meetup activity. Events don't need to be formal presentation series, they can be pretty much anything that brings together 2 or more WP people and gets them talking about WordPress.

If you would like to organize an event, follow these steps:

  • Decide what kind of event you want to organize. It could be coworking at a coffee shop, blogging over a beer, a weekend hackathon, or a study group, you name it. If it relates to WordPress, let's try it!

  • Find a venue. For smaller events just getting started, a coffee shop or a pub can be a good first venue. As the event grows (if you do more of them) you may want to look into a donated venue. If it requires a paid venue, the Venue request form.

  • Schedule the event on the meetup group. Be sure to use a descriptive event title, and write a good description so people know what to expect if they come. If you say you'll wear a WordPress/WordCamp shirt, it makes it easier for people to find you.

  • Show up.

  • Show up.

  • Did we mention showing up? Seriously, though, if you schedule an event, you really need to be there. Please arrive a little early so that if other group members get there early they won't feel lost.

  • Have your event (yay!), keep track of who attends, and update the RSVP attendance list afterward so we have an accurate count of who was there.

  • Start thinking about your next event!

There are also a couple of rules for the overall WordPress Meetup program to keep in mind:

    • WordPress Meetups benefit the WordPress community as a whole, not specific businesses or individuals. All actions taken as an event organizer are with the best interest of the community in mind.

    • Meetups are volunteer-run with volunteer speakers.

    • Meetups are welcoming places where everyone works to foster an accepting environment that is free of discrimination, incitement to violence, promotion of hate, and general jerk-like behavior.
