Welcome! This meetup dedicated to all professionals involved in Cyber Security for Automated Processes and Control Systems including security for Operating Technology (OT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA Systems, Transportation Systems, Building Control Systems (BCS), and even emerging Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems. Our purpose is to connect the professionals in the Greater Idaho Falls area with real interest in or responsibility for the cyber security of these systems.

Once we have enough critical mass of interest in Idaho Falls, we will gather for purposes of education, information exchange, and discovery of new opportunities and, yes, perhaps a few happy hours! Description:
Unfortunately, there seems to be no shortage of cybersecurity vulnerabilities in operational technology (OT) systems. In addition to software vulnerabilities in ICS products, there are often many application-level vulnerabilities present in the implementation and configuration of bespoke systems. In most cases, the vulnerabilities have been present for years but were only recently discovered following a vulnerability assessments or the implementation of ICS detection tools.

While it’s great to have this information, the knowledge and documentation of these vulnerabilities can present an enormous challenge to the organizations that operate and maintain ICS systems. Patching and remediation of vulnerabilities is much more difficult in OT systems because of system availability demands, testing and validation requirements, management of change processes, etc. As such, it is very important for an organization to implement ICS-specific vulnerability management policies and practices that are consistent throughout the enterprise.

Leveraging the principles of alarm management and alarm rationalization from industrial automation, the authors have developed an ICS vulnerability management methodology called Vulnerability Rationalization (VR). The methodology provides organizations with a repeatable, defendable, risk-based method of managing vulnerabilities on an asset-by-asset basis. The VR methodology is vendor agnostic, meaning that it can be applied regardless of the ICS platforms, products, and ICS detection technologies deployed by the organizations.
