In the days of the Gold Rush, North Beach was known as the Barbary Coast, an infamous place where prospectors could spend their riches or drown their sorrows with women, alcohol and gambling. Today, this beloved San Francisco neighborhood is chock-full of great bars and historic locales, many of which carry on some of the traditions of the 1800s. During this two-and-a-half-hour pub crawl, you'll discover North Beach's best bars (including the city's oldest saloon); see the famous Broadway Strip; stop in at the Vesuvio Café, where Beat poetry was invented; explore Grant Avenue, where Janis Joplin got her start; and much more. Along the way, you can try locally brewed Anchor Steam ale or one of the area's famous wines.
