What we're about

Because life is improvised!

This is a group for people that are interested in taking Improv classes.

What is Improv? Improv is the art of Improvisation, making everything up on the spot with no prior preparation. Sounds pretty tough right? Well, at one point in our lives each of us were master improvisers, back when we were children. Somewhere along the when we became productive members of society we forgot the magic of using our own imaginations. Lets get it back!

So what can we as adults learn from Improv?

It teaches us to be better communicators. Keenly develop your skills of listening to other people and to better work with them. Its a wonderful feeling when you go up with no idea of what to do and build something with someone else on the spot.

Many times people are just waiting for their turn to speak in a conversation. Don't be that guy. Great improv takes great listeners. Build better relationships by listening to what other people are actually saying.

Helps you think on your feet. Don't have an idea of what to do in a scene? Great! Neither does your partner, and that's okay! You will learn to trust you scene partner and that you are not in the spotlight alone!

Learn to face your fears, being in the spotlight can be tough. Am I entertaining enough? Am I good enough? What if they don't like it? Sound familiar? Everyone is judging you. Or are they? Most people don't care as much as we think they do. Our Group is a super supportive bunch of people that have all been there before. And we think it is AWESOME to see someone stand up to their fears!

Learn to deal with failure. In Improv, some scenes are great, some not so great. But, that's okay! We can learn from failure. And realize that failure is something we can grow from. Not something to be feared.

Get out of your shell. Have social anxiety? Don't know what to say in a conversation? That's cool too. This a great place to learn communication skills and interact with people in a fun and safe environment.

Most importantly, learn to enjoy yourself more. Life is too important to be taken seriously!

Indoor Drop-In Improv Classes

Needs a location

$15.00

Improv classes are held every Saturday from 2-4 pm. Being in the spotlight can be tough, we understand. So, participate as much you would like during classes! Feel free to wear a mask in the audience and to distance yourself during the scenes. We do ask that you have no mask on when you participate in the scenes. If you’re not comfortable with that it’s totally okay! Classes are $15, or 4 for $40.

We will be located at the Diversity Collective VC in Ventura. Classes will be held in the community room.

Improv is for everyone! At the beginning of class when introducing names, we do ask if anyone has preferred pronouns and something new and good* in their life. If you don't have preferred pronouns, that's cool too. If you'd like, you can just say your name and and something new and good. We'd like to keep our class a positive environment for everyone, and ask that you respect those that do have preferred pronouns or different beliefs. Thanks!

*If you can't think of something new and good (we've been there too) that's okay. Share whatever your comfortable with, sharing is awesome!

Jest Improv classes are intended for adults as matures themes may end up being talked about in scenes.

See you there!
