Second Saturday Sangha in March will have two options. Register for this event if you plan to just do the daytime Five Precept retreat that starts at 11 am and ends at 4 pm with a light supper. Communication i.e. right speech only, not silence, will prevail at supper that can take another 30 to 45 minutes, or you may opt to leave immediately at 4.
The information here is just for the day portion of the 2020 Spring Overnight Retreat. Check the Overnight Retreat event for details if you are considering overnight practice.
WHAT IS A DAY RETREAT: This is a self-directed retreat. Register between 10:30 and 11 am.
There will be an Introduction by Orlando and Cindy at 11 for the taking of the Five Precepts, then you will be on your own until supper at 4 pm.
The meditation room is available starting at 11 am, and the grounds, of course, including the maze, depending on weather conditions.
You may read spiritual literature in books or your digital device, write a journal or book, make art, do other work you've been wanting to do for months or years, the possibilities are endless!
You may also request individual consultation with Orlando to discuss practice issues during the day retreat. Please make this request during the introductory session.
MEALS: There will be no lunch served Saturday but participants can bring food to eat on their own. You may even go out to eat. Supper will be served if enough people sign up for the day portion of the retreat. If you don't plan to stay for supper, please let Cindy know.
FIVE PRECEPTS: Participants will be asked to take the Five Precepts during the retreat. Right speech will not be retreat silence so communication with others is permitted. To reap the most benefit from the day retreat, it is recommended that you defer or limit communication with the outside world from 11 am to 4 pm.
TEACHER: Orlando Gustilo has over 30 years experience in psychiatric and Buddhist practice. He started in the Zen tradition in 1985 until he sat with Ruth Denison at IMS in 1986. He has taught and led retreats since 2014, leading the monthly 2nd Saturday Sangha Retreats at All Souls since 2015.
REGISTRATION: Registration fee for the day retreat is a fixed amount: $30. As usual, full or partial scholarships can be applied for by contacting Cindy Brown, retreat manager, before the day payment is due. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and participation at IBMR events.
If you have committed yourself to the retreat, concretize your commitment by making your payment early.
Payment has to be received by March 11, Wednesday at 9 pm. If you cannot make the deadline, please make arrangements with Cindy.
Please send cash or checks made out to the Retreat Manager, Cindy Brown at: 8865 Westfield Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46240. You may contact her at: [masked]. You may also hand her the cash or check at a meet-up.
REFUNDS: No refunds will be made. Take advantage of your commitment!
TEACHER DANA. Fee does NOT include dana for the teacher. Traditionally, Buddhist teachings are given freely, the community expressing gratitude for the availability of teachings and practice opportunities in the form of dana.
