This evening’s meetup for First Thursday has been updated for an online meeting on Zoom.

In a time of physical isolation, Sharon Zollman’s topic last week was timely. I want to amplify on the topic of kalyanamitta, a spiritual friend, from a traditional and a modern perspective. We’ll study the Upaḍḍha ("Half") Sutta, SN 45.2 in the original Pāli with commentary for what this meant in the time of the Buddha and its application in traditional Theravadan practice and today’s practice, especially in times of physical isolation.

This evening’s meeting lasts 1 ¼ hours. The talk should take 20 - 25 minutes, with time for discussion following the talk. In the spirit of the times, participants are encouraged to share what their situation and practice have been like these days.

The goal of Indianapolis Buddhist Meditation Retreats (IBMR) is to provide teachings and support for Buddhist practice in all traditions of practice.

RSVP is encouraged but not required for attending Thursday meetups. Just show up if your schedule changes and you are able to come and join us.
