Sangha in modern Buddhist practice is a community of practitioners that meets regularly to inspire and support practice, and where, when needed, teachings and guidance are available.
Once a month starting in July, when there is no overnight residential practice, we're meeting on the Second Saturday to sit, walk and study Dhamma.
Starting in November, we're meeting at The Switchboard in Fountain Square, 1 to 5 pm.
The retreat is open to anyone willing to commit to staying for the whole period of the retreat. If you are needed to stay in touch with family or anyone between 1 and 5:00 pm or are unable to stay the whole time, please consider coming to another retreat.
Attendance at Second Saturday Sangha will be a prerequisite for attending all-day or overnight retreats. Longer practice takes meditation to a deeper level, training us through patience and earnestness not only for longer, intensive training but also to better manage life's challenges.
If you come early, you can walk in the neighborhood, quiet and peaceful scenes of urban life in which most of us live and/or work. There is street parking, and parking lots on Shelby north and south of the building.
Participants shall be asked to take the Five Training Precepts including verbal and bodily Silence, that is, no communication with anyone outside or inside the retreat except with the teacher. The use of electronic devices during training is discouraged. Time to rely on just ourselves for the four hours of the retreat, cultivate mindfulness and direct attention to mind and its contents.
Teacher: Orlando Gustilo has over 30 years experience in Buddhist meditation practice. He started in the Zen tradition in 1985 until he sat with Ruth Denison at IMS in 1986 when the Theravada became his main lineage. In recent years he added nonsectarian, scholarship to both study and practice.
Sitting Fee: $10. Bring to the retreat. Dana is not included. Dana is our expression of gratitude for the opportunity to practice and for teachings.
Registration: Please RSVP on meetup.com by Friday morning so the host will know whom to expect. The Switchboard is a private co-working space so you'll need to be let in starting at 12:45.
