Work at Thrifty Threads for Julian Center (6-8 needed)

  • NOTE: We will be volunteering at Thrifty Threads the second Saturday of each month. The hours will probably vary.

We will be working in the Thrifty Threads retail store for a few hours (the store is open 11-5, and they are totally okay with people who need to come late or leave early). We will basically be sorting clothing, putting clothing on hangers, etc. You will not be handling money or dealing directly with customers. See the description below (off the Julian Center website) to learn more about Julian Center's mission.

Oftentimes women and children must leave their personal belongings behind when fleeing a violent situation. Many arrive at our shelter with the clothes they were wearing and very little else. Sometimes children come in their pajamas without shoes to cover their feet. Because 91% of our clients live at or below the federal poverty threshold, most do not have the means to replace items they sacrifice to get to safety.

To manage the assortment and quantity of items needed by the families we serve, our donation center also functions as a thrift store called Thrifty Threads. Our clients shop at Thrifty Threads free-of-charge for items needed to recover and to establish new beginnings. In some cases that might be clothing, furniture, or shoes and toys for their children. Excess items are sold to the public where proceeds help underwrite our victim programs and services. Your in-kind donations allow our clients to start over and to live a life free of abuse.
