Writing has been a thread running through many life adventures and (cough) a few careers; I've published some short pieces along the way in low-distribution media. Mostly, popular science and life experience articles, essays, speeches, plays and skits, a few silly songs and poems, motivational stuff, and experiential curriculum. I have notebooks full of scribblings, a thousand pictures encrypting untold stories, journals and diaries from when I was a kid, and ideas enough for ten lifetimes.
Not sure I can claim they ARE influences. But I'd like them to be. Hemingway for style. Then, for outlook and character portraits, Austen, (James) Herriott, McCall-Smith, Ellis Peters, Herman Charles Bosman.
Inspiration, focus, impetus to pull all my scribblings together into actual products. Prefer the idea of workshops over critique group at this stage.
Lifelong writer, adventure lover, biologist, teacher, researcher, I've been gathering life experiences that I could "one day" write about. And - you may as well know now: I'm ridiculously in love with a white beagle-ish hound-puppy named Mordecai.
