What we're about
Infants & Toddlers of NE Columbia has been started to bring together friendly moms, their babies and young toddlers from NE Columbia. We feel it's very important for children to be exposed to other children around their age to develop socially as well as emotionally. In this modern world, we find it very helpful and reassuring to be surrounded by likeminded as well as differing opinions when it comes to child rearing. It takes a village to raise a child. This is our village.
This group is for parents with children in Northeast Columbia. (New members should have at least one child under the age of three but children are allowed to attend until they reach kindergarten.) Most of our members are Stay-at-Home Moms, Work-from-Home Moms, or parents who work non-traditional schedules. The majority of our meet ups occur during the day and cater to children aged birth to kindergarten. There are monthly Book Club meetings that occur in the evening and are designed to be “Mom’s Only” though infants who are still nursing do occasionally join these meet ups. We also plan "Mom's Night Out" events over the course of the year.
We aim for a very full calendar of playdates, typically 2-3 a week minimum. We try to aim for playdates that will appeal to a variety of interests and budgets. Some playdates will be in members’ homes, some will be at parks, and some will be in paid venues such as museums. Members are encouraged to host playdates, suggest ideas, and most of all be active. We have found a smaller group (typically around 35 members) allows each member and their children to establish better relationships.
This meetup group is for members in the Northeast Columbia area. Prospective members must live in the following zip codes: 29204, 29206, 29016, 29045, 29078, 29223, 29229. (29130 and 29203 will be considered on a case by case basis.) We have found that members who live outside of this area find it too difficult to be active enough to meet our membership requirements (3 meetups a month) with nap times, travel, etc. Please note that there are many other meetup groups throughout the Columbia area.
Since this group caters to those parents who are primarily home during the day with non-school age children and many of our group still takes at least an afternoon nap, most of our activities are planned for mid-morning hours. We occasionally have an afternoon or weekend event planned, but these are the exception rather than the rule. We do many free or low-cost activities each month.
How do you become a member? First, read our Attendance Policy (http://www.meetup.com/Infants-Toddlers-of-NE-Columbia/pages/Attendance_Policy/) and Group Guidelines (http://www.meetup.com/Infants-Toddlers-of-NE-Columbia/pages/Group_Guidelines/). Then simply click the "Join Us!" button on our Welcome page. You will be asked to fill out some profile questions. These just let us get to know you a little until we can actually meet. If you expect to be approved please fill out all the questions and submit a photo of yourself. Once you are on the waiting list, you will be invited to Open Houses which are typically offered once a month. You must attend at least one Open House before you will be approved, however admittance is also subject to an opening in membership.
After approval you will have access to the rest of our website. Please browse through it to get to know more about us and please RSVP for all upcoming events, even if it is a No response.
The membership fee of $5.30 ($5 if paid in cash) annually is to cover the cost of the meetup.com site. Any funds left over will be used for group activities including a family potluck/picnic. The organizers do not make a profit or use any of the fees for anything other than group activities. If you are accepted as a member, fees must be paid in 30 days of approval and no refund is given if you are removed from the group.
