Anne says: During the Global Warming debate, Kathy brought up a topic that I have since looked further into and found to be fascinating. It is summarized best here:


Briefly, we did not evolve the impulse to think long-term, which is why we engage in activities that we KNOW will harm us down the line (overeating, lack of exercise, drug/alcohol abuse...etc.). Our lizard brains simply are not programmed to give a damn about long term repercussions.

So ... how do we silence this part of our brain and allow more recently evolved areas, which can think long-term, to govern our behavior?
