50 Mindful Steps to Self-Esteem: Practices for Self-Acceptance & Self-Compassion

Author and IMSB community member Janetti Marotta, Ph.D. will share her recently published book with us. Copies will be available for purchase at the event and Janetti will be available to sign them.

When looking at the world through a lens of judgment, we often find ourselves wishing we were different or better in some way.  Our identity is wrapped up in stories we tell about ourselves and we tend to believe these stories of inadequacy and insecurity. But the search to prove our worth can lead to dissatisfaction for enough is never enough.  The paradox of self-esteem is that we use judgment to guide us, but this only strengthens the critical mind.  Turning our attention inward, to our unfolding process of being, cultivates a mindful path toward self-acceptance and wholeness.

Janetti Marotta, Ph.D., is a long time practitioner of meditation and a psychologist who integrates mindfulness into her private practice. She also teaches mindfulness-based stress reduction and coordinates mind-body programs for fertility. Her book, 50 Mindful Steps to Self-Esteem:  Everyday Practices for Cultivating Self-Acceptance and Self-Compassion, was published in 2013.

This meeting is appropriate for both beginners and seasoned practitioners. We hope you will come and experience peace, clarity of mind, and a sense of community with us.

Doors open at 7:15pm. Meditation begins at 7:30.

Everyone is welcome. Chairs are provided. The floor is carpeted. You are welcome to bring your own cushion(s) if you prefer to sit on the floor.

This sounds absolutely wonderful! I have another commitment on Tuesday nights, so I'm hoping this will be offered on another evening or weekend afternoon in the future.
