What we're about
NOTE: Since this group only meets once a month with a limited number of participants, we keep the total membership small. At this time we are not taking new members. Please try again in a few months.
This is a group for people in Phoenix or nearby who are interested in making new friends interested in freewheeling opinions but focused on specific intellectual discussion topics. We meet monthly on the 4th Thursday of the month.
The Phoenix Valley is a cosmopolitan and unique home to artists, retirees, LGBTs, suburban families, yuppies, dinks, homeless, the uber-wealthy and more. As a group, we value the ability to engage in civil discourse on topics that others often shy away from. Deeper, richer conversation is our aim. What makes us different is what makes our discussions most valuable.
Members should be BOTH interested in making new friends and in having their ideologies stretched and challenged. If you're a new arrival in Phoenix, if you've been disappointed by the lack of intellectual interests among the people you've met, and if you are willing to engage with others beyond the level of "that's just what I think" or similar vacuous reactions to new ideas, consider joining and attending our Meetups. Since 2013 (every 4th Thursday), we have debated topics such as: Assisted Suicide, American Democracy, What is a "Schmuk," The Millenial Workplace, Relgion vs Spirituality, Corporate Welfare and other topics heavy and light.
We entertain any idea, discipline, or topic that seems of general interest and capable of attracting a wide range of members. We argue, debate, disagree, ponder and pontificate, but we always remain respectful. Our key principle is that we can disagree without being disagreeable.
