This group is largely a reading and discussion group that is open and welcoming to all people, from all backgrounds and beliefs. Most meetings are at coffee houses but also sometimes at people's homes or local breweries, music, art or other entertainment or public service venues and events. This group is an offshoot of various, philosophy, humanist, atheist and other inclusive groups but it also a safe place for religious thinkers, since many members are former believers. First and foremost, this group is a safe and fun place to get deep in thought with friends where we will challenge and encourage one another to think and express in a world that often is hostile to thought and diversity. Elliot asked that I post this - I changed the date from Sunday to Tuesday to see if some folks can make it during the week. Elliot has the AI documentary (one film) or the Why We Hate series - we could watch either. I could also possibly host this in one of the IU lecture halls - or someplace else if we need a more central location - but it's nice to have a home for some of these events. Thanks Elliot!!
At our first meeting we took down topics we all thought would be interesting to discuss at other meetings. At this meeting, we will take down more topics from new members and also begin discussion about what Humanism means - this is actually a very complicated question dating back to the Renaissance and earlier. We will talk about this 1930s definition, The Humanist Manifesto, and others - https://americanhumanist.org/what-is-humanism/manifesto1/
