Get Tough or Stay Broke!

We all take our cars through an MOT regularly. When our car has been serviced we know we can drive it safely. But how often do we take our financial affairs through an MOT?

Today, more than ever, we need to be in control of our finances, but many people don’t know where to start. This talk is designed to help people take back control of their money and their lives.

During the talk, Lina Bourdon will;

- Show the main mistakes people make when it comes to their personal financial planning and how to avoid them

- Share some inside information and some secrets about the financial industry and how it works- Give tips which people can use every day and see some results straight away

- Provide some statistics and some figures to paint the real picture of modern life- Tell real life stories and answer questions

- Make people laugh

- Make people think

- Make people believe they can live the life they want, not only the one they can afford

Lina Bourdon

Founder & MD at City & Country Financial Services Ltd

I joined the Financial Services industry in 2006 and saw it through both good and bad times. Throughout my work as a Financial Professional I have met, spoken and provided my services to hundreds of clients which have led me to discover something very interesting and powerful about people and their finances:
People don’t actually have financial goals and objectives - they have life plans and dreams which require financial solutions so those plans and dreams can be achieved.

The job of any Financial Professional is not about selling Mortgages, Life Insurance Policies or Pension Plans. In City & Country Financial Services we believe that our job is to learn and to discover our clients` goals, plans and inspirations and help them make their dreams come true using Financial Planning tools, solutions and strategies.
Lina has been running financial seminars on behalf of the FSA since 2009, helping people take back control of their money and their lives, and she has a proven track record of success.

Among the organizations Lina has worked with are the House of Commons, Ministry of Justice, Home Office, UK Border Agency, Government Office for London, John Lewis, Zurich, Sony, BUPA, Computacenter, NHS Trusts and local Government offices.

What do people have to say about Lina?
“Lina is a credit to the Financial Industry. She explains money matters in a way that captures the imagination.”Percy Hutchful, JOHN LEWIS

“Many thanks for your presentation, there was much food for thought!”J. RumsamTHE HOUSE OF COMMONS, PARLIAMENT

“This is not the first time I have received really good feedback about your presenting style and your ability to make dry material entertaining.”Isabelle PreeceFinancial Capability Division, FINANCIAL SERVICES AUTHORITY

“Thank you so much for the presentation you gave to GOL staff... and for the follow-up advice and support you have offered. Your presentation of a potentially rather dry topic was fun, engaging and inspiring, and many staff told me subsequently how much they had enjoyed it.”Iain McNabGOVERNMENT OFFICE FOR LONDON

Great talk from a very entertaining lady. I would have been nice to get a bit more content but was really entertaining.

Thanks for your comments Sukh. Yes agree with you more content would be more valuable - it's not easy to deliver such a presentation when you have people of different ages with completely different circumstances in the room at 7pm. My main goal was to make sure people would not start snoring! Matt and I are working on a workshop which will be packed with content (I will also make sure there will be a few jokes and stories so it would not get too boring) If you can do get in touch, I value your opinion and it would be really helpful for me to know how I can deliver a better seminar next time I run it - if Matt invites me ever again!

Dear Interested Listeners, thanks a lot for all your feedback, your participation, your questions and your huge support. I am working through all enquiry forms you filled in asking for Money MOT review - I will be in touch with you as promised and trust me, you will get LOTS of value from this meeting (otherwise I will buy you a latte and a muffin!). I truly believe money does not need to be a cause of worry and stress; financial planning does not need to be boring and you can turn your dreams into reality. Let's plan your future together

Very interesting and inspiring. Lots of amazing facts and figures delivered with humour. The offer for participants to get their finances MOT'd was amazing. I'm looking forward to getting my money sorted out.

The talk was great. very direct with lot of information and action plan (e.g. collecting receipts to know your spending). It is very helpful and Lina makes a serious subject interesting by her great deal of knowledge on the topic and her wit.

Thank you Lina for such a great talk. This was really different from the usual type of talk that we have, it is also the reason why I love the title "Interesting Talks" as is does not limit us to topics we can cover. In the future I will be putting together workshops with Lina, so watch this space!

Another really interesting talk. Thanks matt for organising this one ... it was hugely helpful and Lina was very inspirational.

The topic was interesting and sadly quite relevant to the financial stress that many households experience. This meet up is a good reminder that reviewing and controlling our spending habits, managing a budget and finally following set goals on short and long term are ingredients to improving financials and enjoying more. I do practice some of the tips Lisa kindly shared with us and I was told to be crazy.. but this does work and am happy to realise i was not that mad doing it.

Lisa Bourdon really knows her topics, is passionate about it and has a nice way explaining it without all the jargon and the non-sense. Thank you very much for the presentation!

Lina is such a great speaker. She really puts things in to context and in a way that people can relate to. This is particular important given the topic. Lina helped me get my finances sorted out and I have the greatest admiration for her. Listen to her words. These are words of wisdom
